Long story short, my dad has a JD 2240 w/JD 145 FEL. The loader and 3 PT were not raising properly. The loader would raise with little power if you increased engine rpm. We pulled the external hyd pump and had it rebuilt, $741.00, ouch. Reinstalled pump and loader and no change. Is there an internal pump that has to be pulled as well. Where is it located. Any help is appreciated. Frustrated

If I can remember this right, isn't the 40 series the
ones that would have an internal oil line leak in
the center of the transmission case and
cause hydraulic problems? how is the steering
on the tractor?

Steering is jerky with the loader on the tractor.

I think you're right, a pump in the transmission supplys the main pump.
Some things to check:
Correct amount trans/hydraulic oil level
Plugged trans reservoir screen
Plugged trans filter
Check valve, inlet line to main pump
Pressure control valve sticking
Trans filter relief valve
Pump has a shutoff valve for cold starting (destrokes pump so it will not build pressure for cold weater starting)
Pump stroke incorrectly set

Did you have pump rebuilt and installed/tested by rebuider?

Yes the pump was rebuilt abd tested by a large and reputable shop.
