John Deere implement.. what is it?

I have a question about this implement that I found out in the furthest corner of my property, after some heavy brush cutting. I know it's John Deere (it said so it's self) And I suspect it is some kind of crop planter. I'd like to know where to find more info on it, like how old it is etc. And possible worth. My wife saw it and wants to put it out front as an oversize pot for an herb garden.

Looks to me like it is the tool bar for a 4 row corn planter. With different plates it could plant many items that were in rows such as soybeans. The drill itself looks like it is missing.

And your wife's idea is a good one, you must tell her and she will be very happy that someone else thinks she had a good idea /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have seen some of the even older ones as flower pots that had the round tubs.

That WAS a 4-row planter at one time in its life. Those are the fertilizer boxes, along with a toolbar. Lots of those were sold and used "down south" with "unit planters" mounted on the toolbar. The unit planters were better suited for planting cotton and peanuts than the 495/695/895 type row-crop planters that you'd find more commonly "up north"

Those are rusting away in the weeds.....And I'm hunting for a couple of 'em.......

That looks like the fertilizer attachment for an older John Deere planter. Possibly for a six-row planter.

Your finding all kinds of neat stuff.

Now you have at least 2 choices.

1)You can help out Indy.

2)You can have some official J. Deere flower/herb pots.

Does your wife read this over your shoulder??? If not, the decision is still yours.
