Bought a Lowes special John Deere LA175 200hrs for $100. Had busted electric clutch stop. Not a bad deal. My only issue is the amount of paint flaking off. Almost all metal is paint free. Should I leave it alone or try to repaint? Not sure if it's worth repainting.

I feel like it will be a lot of work to make it right cosmetically, Mechanical 100%.

Wow how could this happen? Paint defect or someone tried to wash it with brake fluid. You might need to dismantle a lot to be able to sand it correctly or sandblast it? Metal is thick on those. It.should still last a while. Depending hoe.ypu store it

I'd brush it with rust converter and call it a day.

This. Plus some green paint. Or pink and sell it as a limited edition.....
Lots of these delaminate. But you win the prize.

I did find out that on these models powder coat didn't bond good. Plus I do live at the beach. To do it right. Would be removing body, sandblast, and paint. I don't think it's worth it.

Use OSPHO (Phosphoric acid), available at hardware, & Marine supply stores, in Gallons for about $30.
Let it sit, after brushing on OSPHO, for several days (follow OSPHO instructions).
Then paint it green ....with a brush.
I live near salt water.
OSPHO is great stuff, but it does need to be covered with paint to provide a lasting protected surface.

Boy I bet that John Deere is proud of that one.

Years ago, I worked for a over-the-road refrigeration company. The manufacturing plant was having a lot of trouble with the paint sticking to the surfaces. Turns out that the electrical assemblers were using silicone on the connecters as part of the harness assembly. Then wiping there hands on a rag and then using the same rag to wipe off the dust and dirt that got on the metal surfaces.

Took a team about a month to get the connection between the harness assembly using silicone and the problem with the paint.
