You're a good friend!

And it's wise of your friend to have someone do a once over on a piece of equipment before mowing season starts. How much will he have in all the parts / fluids? Looks like work that would cost a grand or more at the stealership.

...and replace that gunky seat while you're at it! :drink:

Thanks. I think he is currently under $900 on everything. Yeah...he needs a new seat and 2 amber turn lenses. Still waiting on rubber tires for the finishing mower and a broken piece on the rear lift mechanism. Tractor only has about 250 hrs on it...just a baby in my opinion. He should be good to go for many hours in the future.

Tractor really hasn't been used much since his dad passed away many years ago. It has mostly been sitting under a carport. Not sure how new the gas is in the tank. I would drain and replace if it were mine. Tractor seemed to run great though.

Yeah, that JD should be good to go for thousands of hours. Sitting does more harm than careful use. I agree on draining the fuel. Easy to do and then you know where you stand.

Interesting on parts prices. $900 does not surprise me. Could not build that tractor piece by piece for 50 grand, probably.

If my sons maintain and use my equipment after I pass, I will be pleased and honored.

Do any of you guys have a recommendation for fixing the seat safety switch? Every once in a while it acts up (cuts motor off when moving from neutral to low or drive). Picking up the seat and dropping it in neutral seems to do the trick. The black button on the switch seems to move like it should, and the switch mechanism/housing seems to move downward as it should. I have never seen a setup like this with both a moving button and a moving mechanism/housing. If I had to make a guess as to what causes the problem, I would guess that the mechanism/housing moves downward more easily than the button itself, which means that the button doesn't get fully depressed as it should.

I should have said "cuts motor off when moving from neutral to low or high"
