Thanks for the insight everyone. I won't have a chance to work on it until after Christmas, but I will let you know what I find. I sure hope it is nothing too severe.

Thanks to all for the advice/insight. After some troubleshooting, I replaced the condenser and that took care of the problem. Started right up and ran like a charm. I never would have thought of that, so I appreciate the advice.

Next unrelated question is about this oil leak at the manifold. After running the tractor for 45 minutes I took a picture of what it looks like. The oil is very dark and thick, closer to grease consistency. The engine oil has been recently changed and looks good, nothing like this. The tractor does not smoke at all when it runs. Any suggestions? image1.JPGimage1.JPG

Hard to tell from here, but my guess is that's not engine oil. Looks like a mix of unburned fuel, soot, etc., from the exhaust. Probably made worse by the missing and backfiring.

I suggest that you clean it off, then run the engine until it gets hot. That should dry out the exhaust.

Like Bigfoot said moisture in the exhaust most likely happened before the engine was warmed up just soot.
