John,

That's great. Thanks for the info. Deere is always improving on their web site. No manual for the 4100HST online... yet. Just the gear.

John,
That is very helpful info. I looked at a 4300 hydro tranny service since my manual say's nothing about it. on line manual said to service filter and oil at 50 hrs and 200 hrs,my dealer told me 600 hrs, I now have 300 hrs on my 2001 4300. How do I belive!

John,

Thanks for the link. It really helps when someone asks a question to have the manuals online. Now I don't have to run to the truck in the parking lot to look something up! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks again...

DDT,

My manual for the 4700, both hardcopy and online, says to change the tranny filter on both gear/HSTs at 200 hours. For HST change the oil as well. At 50 hours the HST was supposed to have the filter and oil changed as well as the screen cleaned.

Sounds like you have an oil/filter change to do this weekend.

I'm actually doing my Friday or Saturday. Make sure you have a band filter wrench. My old and new tranny filters are not designed to use my normal filter cup that fits on my socket wrench. So its going to be the band wrench or a screw driver to take this thing off the tractor. And JD filters have thick metal cases....

Later...

Great site John /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif These manuals are even more up-to-date than the ones that I got a couple of months ago with my 4300. Thanks for the info!!

Dan, I threw away all my band type filter wrenches about 10 years ago. I still have some of the cup type, but buy a "three legged oil filter wrench" and I think you'll throw away the band type, too. Northern Tool, Tractor Supply, and I think almost any auto parts store has the three legged ones.

Well, Thanks for the education. The only thing my manuals said was on gear tranny, nothing about hydro. Well your right I'll need to do a tranny service and engine this weekend. I still don't know why my dealer told me different since he had to call some elese to find the answer, but compacts in my area is almost unheared of.

Thanks again

Bird,

I could not find the band wrench last night. I know I have one with a red handle for the larger filter sizes. I found the black handled band wrench for small filters but could I find the wrench for the large size? NOOOoooooo! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

This reminds me of a story. When I first read your note I read the "wrenches" as "wenches." /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

A friend of mine, a women, walked into a model train store a few years ago to buy a set for her SO. She knew nothing about model trains. She wanted to get an HO train set but the problem was she had never heard anyone say HO before. She walked into the store and asked the man behind the counter if he had any HO trains. He got the weird look on his face and said,"Excuse me?" She had pronounced HO so that it soundled like the street term for a street walker instead of H O. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I guess I'll go look for the three legged oil wrench at the part store today.... Hopefully I won't ask for a three legged wench..... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for the info...
