So is this engine a gasser? Mobil 1 last time I looked had a TBN of about 5. I would take the JD oil over Mobil in this case.

The above grades you listed are very true for dino, but synthetic are about the same from –47 to –60 F. I use 15w-40 in Massachusetts and works fine.

I have used it for two years now in my Century 3045 with 4-cyl Yanmar engine. It was 9 degrees this AM and I used the tractor to clear some snow. You can tell the effect of the temperature by the increased duration of the pre-heat light. It spins over beautifully and starts right off. Since I never used the dino stuff in the winter I can't tell you the difference. I can tell you that a friends Dodge Cummins doesn't start nearly as well in the cold. He uses 15w-40 Chevron. Deere also has a lifetime warranty as long as you use their oil, they will repair your motor if there's an oil related failure. That might be worth the paper it's written. To be realistic, you're never going to see the kind of hours on one of our CUTs that you see in construction or farm work. I use synthetic because of the low temperatures here in Maine. If I used the tractor in 50 - 90 degree weather I would use Delvac or Rotella dino and never loose a wink worrying I was going to wear out my engine.
