I am posting some pictures of the tree scoop (poor man's backhoe) in action that I recently built and used last weekend to move 8 trees ranging in height from 8 foot up to 30 foot tall. I modified a design I found on this forum and instead of welding the scoop to the quick attach frame, I just bolted it on so I could utilize the frame for other tools, such as the rails I am welding up for the Forklift forks I got from one of my buddies a couple of weeks ago.

Man this thing worked great. I was able to dig out the trees to move in about 2 1/2 hours and dig the 8 holes at my house, in mostly clay soil, in under an hour. I will post some more pictures of the frame, scoop, forks and rails, and of the trees planted in my yard as soon as I catch up with work and home stuff. I was home taking care of my sick 2 1/2 year old Monday and Tuesday and she kept me pretty busy.

Brian,

That's pretty neat.

I also like your box blade storage. Do you have any more pictures of it?

Dale,

Excellent work! I am very interested in seeing more pictures of the quick attach frame, etc.

I would like to build a shrub bucket too. How did you cut the sheet steel?

Thanks for posting.

I built it to add weight for FEL loader work and to haul my tools around the garden. I can easily load it with enough rocks (we grow them in Indiana) to be more than enough weight. If you need more pictures or close ups I will try and get them this weekend.

They cut them to my drawing for me at our Local Metal Supermarkets. I will hopefully make it out to the shop this weekend to get some more pictures. Been working overtime to get a project done before the end of the year.

FEL Fork mounts tacked up and used as a drill guide for mounting the scoop so everything will use the same holes and make my life easier.

Brian,

Your tree scoop is just the answer to what I am looking for. I have a 3.5 acre home site that is totally void of any trees. But it does have a very nice 35 acre lake. When I purchased the lot, I started a small tree nursery and used a solar water pump to ensure irrigation for the young trees. The tress have done very well and I will be looking to start moving them in the spring. Would you be willing to share your plans with me? I have a friend who has all the steel working tools (cutting, welding, etc) - I just need a good plan and yours looks great.

Also, any special advice on its use? Where you successful in moving your trees and having them survive? I have read several posts about moving trees and having them not make it.

Thanks,

Thomas (aka Kubota Tee)
