john deere 4100
i have a john deere 4100 tractor that sat for two years-it has a new battery, glow plugs and fuel pump relay.it cranks fine just doesn't get fuel to the injectors unless i pull connector at fuel pump relay and put a jumper wire in the plug it then starts right up.i tested the seat switch and pto switch they are good.i am thinking maybe its the control module under the seat.
has anybody run into this problem i would greatly appreciate any help-thank you ,allen poole

:welcome:
The symptoms sound like the fuel shutoff solenoid. A search on TBN should bring up some good discussions how to check it out. It is a possibility. There are other problems that sometimes look like it is the solenoid, and turns out to be something else too.

THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP-ON NEWER MODELS THE THERMISTER IS LOCATED BEHIND THE FUSE BOX A $10.00 PART-THIS THERMISTER FAILING WILL CAUSE THE SYMPTOM I AM ENCOUNTERING-ON THIS OLDER MODEL THE THERMISTER IS LOCATED INSIDE THE CONTROL MODULE A $400.00 PART.I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYBODY ELSE HAS RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM AND IF THEY REPLACED THE MODULE DID IT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM.

I have a 4300 that has had this problem a couple of times. Dealer replaced the thermister under warranttee the first time. I find that it is worse on the first start of the day, especially a cold day. I have also found that if I jumper from the white fuel solenoid wire to ground it takes the thermister out of the circuit and the solenoid pulls in, but only jumper it until it fires as the solenoid is NOT designed to carry 12 volts constantly (burnt one out when the wire shorted). I will probably install a momentary contact push button if the problem re-occurs, or else rig a relay so the solenoid is getting 12 volts whenever the starter is engaged. (My tractor normally fires up within 3 seconds when plugged in on a -30C morning)
It seems that once the solenoid has moved after sitting for a few days then its OK for a while.....If it doesn't fire up after 3 seconds then I have some problem somewhere...

thanks Pat for your input-reading your experience solidifys my thinking that the module is bad because the thermister on this model is in the module.when i jump the wire at the fuel relay i am doing what the module is supposed to do.
thank you allen poole
