x728 ultimate
I was looking for some help. I am the president of our youth baseball organization and we have a john deere x728 ultimate and yesterday our maintenance guy was mowing the field and the mower just shut off. It will not turn back on at all, it's like it's completely dead. Nothing even lights on the dash. In the past 3 years, we have gone through 3 batteries which is odd. I did the troubleshooting of removing the battery and cleaning it. But nothing. Had someone come and test all the fuses, turned out all were good. Turned pto on and off, no difference. Any ideas?
Thanks
Ivan Cunningham

Try checking out the ignition switch.

I will look at that at the ball field, someone told me today sounds like an alternator issue. Could that be it also?

While looking on a deere site, some people had problems with corrosion between the battery cable and it's end. If it is completely dead, it should be easy to find your problem with a schematic drawing.

jdparts.com
suggests the Ignition Switch is TCA22740

Check with your Deere dealer too.

I think the X728 comes with a 4 year warranty so if you've had it for 3 years call the dealer to fix the problem.

The OP going through 3 batteries makes me wonder also. Is the charging system working properly?

I changed out the ignition today, still no power, tried a different battery also and no power either.

Check both ends of each battery cable. Take them off, clean up and put them back on. Then start looking at the safety switches making sure they work.

I've just had the same thing with a used X740 that I've got on trial.

It started happening when I found a blown fuse - I replaced it and immediately I got nothing on the dashboard. After about 30 mins I had the ignition turned on while I pulled the new fuse out and the dashboard came on for a few seconds then went blank.
After a bit more messing with the fuses (and connecting another battery - but I'm not sure this is related as original battery was showing 12.7v when not running) it was back to normal. Over the last couple of days it's been fine, starting first turn with no charge light showing.

My theory is that there's a bit of corrosion or a slightly bad connection inside the fuse box.

Hope this helps.

Did you figure out what was wrong. I have a 720 that is having similar issues. 2 new batteries, from time to time to time even the dash lights will not come on. But hook a 200amp boost up to it and the lights come on and it starts right up. The battery shows it is charging when running. Cleaned terminals and John deere even went through and cleaned all connections. Last night was the first time it has ever died while running? I was pushing snow with the lights on and everything went dead. And not like a kill switch dead, those are slow this was much quicker. Hook a boost/charger and in 20 seconds it's running again.......

i wonder if these are tied to that single red 10a ? fuse that is behind the side screen in front of the dash... it's a
single fuseholder with fuse that has been known to get wet and hold moisture.i think it hangs near
the relays.

That's easy enough to get to, and check or replace would that be enough to cause it to die like that?

Figured it out, or at least for the moment. This time it would not even start with the charger. It was indeed a bad fuse, started pulling random fuses and one a 30 was burnt black and had a ton of corrosion on it. Replaced it as well as took a wire file and cleaned the fuse connections and it started right up. Only Time will really tell if that was the problem. But it defy was for the starting issue.
