The Briggs engine on my JD Z225 started acting up around 200 hours. Adjusted the valves, replaced the carb, fuel filter, fuel pump, ignition coil, head gasket...

It would run okay for a while and then start acting up again. Finally had enough even though the mower and engine only has something like 224 hours on it at this point.

So I bought this Poulan Pro 1P96F engine off ebay thinking it would bolt right up. Well, yes. It bolted up exactly, the clutch and pulley fit, and even the electrical harness works without modification. 608cc Poulan PRO 19HP 1P96F Engine 1" X 3-5/32" 15 Amp -SR | eBay

It seems to run more quietly than the Briggs, too. It came with its own muffler which required no modifications to fit.

So for anyone looking to replace their engine on a Z225, you might look for one of these.
