Frank, I have some DVDs that are closed captioned and some that are not. Apparently they make them both ways.

Alan,

My two favorite John Wayne movies are McKlintock! and North To Alaska . Even though my wife doesn't like John Wayne (still haven't figured out how anyone can't like John Wayne!), she did get me McKlintock! as a gift last year. And my daughter just gave me North To Alaska this year for Father's Day. One of my other favorites is They Were Expendable , about the PT boats in WWII.

You know McLintock wasn't shown on TV for many years, and wasn't available anywhere else (something about being tied up in a lawsuit, I think), but as soon as it was available on video cassette, I bought it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have McClintock and North to Alaska on DVD, plus the Cowboys, Rooster Cogburn, True Grit, Chisum, The Searchers, Sons of Katy Elder, and several more that I can't remember. Started pulling them down on TIVO (making sure they were commercial free, like on HBO), then archved them onto DVD from the TIVO machine. All digital so you don't loose any quality. I didn't record those off of AMC last weekend because they have commercials. I don't mind watching them, but for DVD would prefer no commercials. The DVD media is very cheap now. I have more than 400 movies in my "library" and only about 50 or so are storebought. The only thing missing from the recordings are the special features.

One of my favorites is "The Cowboys". It is one of the few movies that my dad took me to when I was a kid and it had some real memorable lines in it. During the movie one of the boys was being beat up by a bad guy and John Wayne stepped in and said " what do you do when the boys come a little bigger?" I love that! He also said "every young man has the need to let the badger loose once in a while." Priceless!
