I would love to have a forklift around the house but my wife says I have enough toys all ready but I am sure it is only a matter of time. I have a couple of older Nisan fork lifts with heat & I am sure one will find its way home some time. I have some pretty big fork trucks with roll clamps on them. They are 10,000 lb lifts but the clamp alone is almost 3,000 lbs. We had an incident a short time ago where 1 of my employees turned it over. I hired this guy with over 30 years in the paper industry but he has never handled stuff as big as I do.

Fortunately nobody got hurt but things happen, he was stacking the roll and made the fatal mistake of lifting and tilting while moving forward instead of being over the roll he was stacking on. The roll was over 5,000 lbs. and was almost a perfect counterbalance so it was like a seesaw and set the clamp on its nose very softly. I have seen a lot of things happen with lift equipment over the years & not all end well. We have had them go over into a pile of rolls and start the domino effect. I have had them go out the loading dock & slam into support columns

Holy smoke Charlie that could have been serious. Glad the operator didn't get hurt, well only his pride. They are Hugh rolls of paper. Are they used for a paper mill, factory, news paper....?
We got more snow yesterday so I've been out for the last two days plowing it.
Couldn't be without a forklift now that I have one. Seems I'm needing more all the time. Here's a few examples. Couldn't lift this stuff with the tractor.

Those spools are coated paper used for metalizing. The most common thing you would see this used in is Christmas paper. But it is used in a large number of applications in packaging. I am what they call an outside off sight storage facility. I handle storage, trucking, inbound, export, for our customers. Paper is the bulk of what we deal with in many forms.

No that's a roll clamp, I have 2 of them. I have been in the paper industry for about 15 years. I can crush the core of just about anything with these clamps. I have workers with tissue in the past on the scrap end of the industry and don't much care for dealing in that part of the business.

Timber I am not douting that's a roll clamp. Its the wrong clamp for what you using it for. I believe your in the paper industry. but unless you remove the pressure relief valve crushing a roll of paper? not going to happen
