Just arrived and hour meter is broken

Finally, I started reading the post from page one and I am commenting on the posts as I come to them. I don't know the final outcome.

Well, after 30 years in the legal field, I can pretty comfortably disagree with you.
Well it seems that after 30 years you'd figure out to read all the evidence before giving conclusions.

What does it mean to work in the legal field?

Lawyers typically do the following: Advise and represent clients in criminal or civil proceedings and in other legal matters. Communicate with clients, colleagues, judges, and others involved in a case. Conduct research and analysis of legal issues. Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and ...

I'm pretty sure you're an internet, shadetree legal "ex-spurt"... And here only to troll.

Your "legal field" didn't cover contractual law?

I sure won't engage you in legal discourse of which you obviously know nothing about. 😆
He said he was in the legal field. That could mean many things.

That would be a flaw. As you say, you have many more hours below 2k. Mine registers at all rpm.

Also, modern tractors with certain required devices need to be run at 2500 or so. Enjoy the ability to run lower without causing problems.
Not a flaw per se, Lots of mechanical meters only read @ pto speed.

Not at all related to the OPs situation, But I thought they read Accurate hours at PTO speed, but always read. As, if PTO rpms were 2000; if you can 1000 rpms for 2 hours, you got 1 hour on the meter. I dont think that's a problem, as it is probably a more accurate estimate for maintenance intervals.

Not on the mechanicals, depends on the type. Some use an average rpm and only record at that rpm and higher. Ford had a proof meter that used ~3/4 of pto speed to reflect hours used. There are ones that operate off of oil pressure and fuel pump pressure. Some electric ones have a small flaw in that they run whenever the key is on.
Personally, I’ve never relied on an hour meter as unconditional proof of age/condition. Equipment is generally supposed to be used at governed/pto speed.

If an hour meter records 1/2 at slower speed, wouldn’t that indicate my 2000 hour machine has really been used for 4000+ hours?

He is closer to the truth than you. The dealer could sue for damaged reputation and the subsequent loss of business. A big enough dealer could suffer some pretty significant damages and a smaller dealer....especially in this economic climate, could lose their business. At the very least, the OP would be looking at huge legal expenses to defend himself.
Uhhhh suuurrreeee!
What dealer? Oh the one selling him the broken hour meter tractor. The one who advertised it as 1555 hours then admitted it had a lot more hours than that, at least over 2K.
Did they lose business? They refunded his money. So...this non-mentioned dealer has provable losses due to selling a falsely advertised tractor for which they refunded his money.
Are YOU an attorney? If not you'd make a good one!
Thanks for the laugh!
Now...back to your cave...

Basically uses an oil pressure switch to "know" that engine is running and therefore it starts counting hours. Once the switch closes the contacts, it feeds power to the hour counter.

The electronic ones, just get a signal from the alternator so it knows when to start counting hours but it uses it's own timer, so it's not RPM dependent on how fast/slow it adds the hours.

I dont see it Nearly as much as I used too; but 15 years ago; with many companies, it was standard practice to lube/fuel everything 1st thing, and start anything you would use before lunch, and just let it idle, even if it would be a couple hours before you ran the roller or whatever. It wasn't at all unusual or even frowned on, to leave a loader or whatever running, while the guys sat in a truck to eat lunch. That's where a Lot of hours came from, pure idle time.

Company did send out an email about carbon pounds from excessive idle in cars/trucks, and how if we where sitting more than 5 minutes, we should turn the vehicle off; but then the strobes drain the battery, the power inverter for computer drains, it, ect. Normally, if I'm within a 100 ft or so of the work vehicle, I leave it run, unless I know I'll be out for 30 mins or more. No one ever looks at passenger vehicle hours vs miles.
I would have more respect for that email if it said "You F'ers are burning $50,000/month in idle gas" rather then 5#/vehicle of emissions carbon.... or whatever
