I've been thinking about making this purchase since I saw this item one time last summer, so I'm not sure that I would call it an "impulse" buy. On the other hand, it is more of an impulse than I am used to.

On the way home from our 1st East TN TBNer meeting Saturday I stopped by a Lawn & Garden center in Knoxville and purchased the new model Honda 4 cycle hand-held weed-eater.

After performing a quick trim job around the house I can say that so far I am impressed with it. It is very quiet. Starts easily. It is supposed to be slightly heavier (about 1 to 1.5 pounds heavier) than an equivalent 2-cycle model. The weight did not bother me.

I normally investigate items for what seems like 300 years before I purchase them, to include seeking opinions from the vast wealth of knowledge on this board. Now it is too late for "pre-purchase" opinions, but I am still seeking opinions from those who have experience with this weed-eater. I chose the 4-cycle Honda over the 2-cycle Shindawa (sp?) because I seem to have the worst luck with 2-cycle engines (boat engines, weed eaters, whatever).

Opinions?

Thanks,
Kelvin

You would have broken your 2-cycle engine bad luck streak if you had gotten that Shindaiwa for sure. I own a Shindaiwa F-18, about 10-12 years old, started it today for the first time since last october, a couple of cranks and vroum just like last year and the year before and.........That is used almost daily from now til october, never spent a dime on it, all it needs is its 50:1 fuel-oil mix. I think you cant go wrong with a Honda though, they are pricey but so are Shindaiwa, worth every penny IMHO. Those days when MADE IN JAPAN=JUNK are long gone, heck I might even buy a tractor if it said MADE IN JAPAN under the serial number. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The friends that I have that are in the Landscaping / Mowing buisnesses STRONGLY recommend the Shindawa, and have done so for years.

When I asked the sales person about the how the Honda was selling with the "professioinals", he indicated that the Shindawa was still out-selling all other brands, including the Honda. The main reason for the lower interest in the Honda was the heavier weight, and the second reason was that the Shindawa had proven itself and the Honda hasn't proven itself, yet, since it is still new technology.

That was my thinking. Hopefully it will prove to be good logic.
