Mowing Just Bought BX2200 Won't Start

Your key clue is you started mowing on a steep hill. This might have dislodged particulate matter in the tank or one of the fuel filters. Best left to the dealer to fix, especially then they can't say it had anything to do with what you might have done trying to 'fix' it.
And just for clarity, if it is a diesel it has a fuel tank, not a gas tank. And I doubt there is any gas in your fuel tank.

I agree with motownbrowne. Don't do something that gives the dealer any bad feeling. He's doing you right and you want to let the cycle complete. I think you can be totally within your rights to ask what it was what they did to fix it. I think the hill is what triggered it and my guess it will be an easy fix with the filters and flush the tank out.

I have taken this advice and let it be for the dealer tomorrow. I will report back here with the diagnosis and results once it is repaired.

I'd also have the dealer check the air filter and for a plugged radiator since you were doing heavy mowing with it when it started. BX's are known for the rad's getting plugged up from heavy mowing given they're lower than full size tractors. A plugged rad would cause overheating, but I suppose a plugged air filter might cause your symptoms.

My bet is: Cause: hill~fuel contaminated. Fix: drain tank, replace fuel filters. Check air filter condition, coolant mixture %, and radiator area for chaff, to set a baseline going forward.

I did pull the air filter out when I first couldn't get it to start. It appeared to be a new filter and was certainly clean to the eye. I even cranked it once with the filter out. I also don't think overheating is the problem since the temp gage stayed at midway and it won't start when it is cold. The coolant level is good as well. Sure will be glad to have it back and running (hopefully without any more problems for a good while). I will post a picture of it with the rotary cutter attached when I get it back.

Beside the coolant level, is check of the mix % to determine freeze point, and that mix is adequate to keep radiator and water pump from corrosion due to minerals in water: used distilled to fill.

Just an update. The dealer picked the tractor up while I was at work. I got an email from the owner stating that the fuel cutoff solenoid had gone bad so that when it was on its way out, being magnetic, it was shutting off and biasing closed while in operation and then opening back up when it's function resumed until it died completely (explaining the loss of power nearly shutting off while mowing). The new part will not be in until Thursday and he said he would get it to me by Friday. I only wonder why the exhaust would blow black smoke while cranking if the fuel supply was cut off completely?

black smoke is unburned diesel. I dont think the solenoid was shutting it off completely - my guess is just enough for feul to pass through. I wouldnt overthink it. before you gave us the current update, My first guess is one of the two seat safety switches being dislodged on/off a little, not the filters causing the problem from symptoms you were describing. Glad the dealer found the problem and willing to fix it.

Does this tractor have a seat safety switch? Somebody has told me that it doesn't. If it does, then it has certainly been disabled on this particular tractor as I can dismount at any time while it is running even with the PTO on and it continues to run. Just want to clarify for sure as I haven't gotten a manual yet, the dealer is going to order one for me.
