I just bought a bx23 from a dealer that is about 50 miles from my house. This was supposed to be a new unit. The unit arrived and I noticed that it had over 4 hours on meter, which really didnt bother me alot . However Ive ran it about 3 hours around the lawn today and hour meter didnt change,it has been diconnected. Called dealer and he said they normally change them(hour meter) back to 0 on new tractors for customers, but the forgot to do mine. They want to send guy to my house on Monday to do this. Looking tractor over it appears that it may have alot more hours than this, as almost half the paint is missing off of bottom of loader. Now what would you do in my shoes? I feel like I have been deceived, and I dont like it. PS I put down about 1/3 cost of machine and financed the rest. Would really like to hear from dealers.

hello,
I'd tell them to come and get it,and drop off a new shiny tractor in its place. by thier theory yours with 4 hrs is still new. It's illegal to do that.

I saw a similiar thing on a B7610 I looked at. I didn't see the hour meter, but it was new and I could see that a section of the FEL had been pound back into shape and had been repainted. I would guess that messing with the hour meter would not be legal. What purpose is the hour meter if not to show current and accurate hours of usage??? Obviously see what the dealers here have to say, but let your dealer know you are not happy. If he doesn't do what IS right, then let him know you are going to contact Kubota to see what they say. I can't imagine they can just disconnect hour clock and use the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
If you are not satisfied with either answer, contact AG office and ask if it is a legal thing to change an hour clock and not notify you of accurate Hours at sale. (while representing it as a close to 0 hour tractor) I bet it goes hand in hand with changing mileage in a vehicle.
My opinion, if it were meant to be changed, there would be a reset button. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Good Luck

That is one site that says it is against State law to change/alter etc. hour meters on farm equipment / tractors. You didn't fill out your profile so I couldn't search in your state. Just search things like:
Farm equipment alter hour meter
tractor alter hour meter or change hour meter etc. etc.

I could be wrong, but like I said, I would be surprised if I was. I would also think you could get them to take it back due to your sales contract. I bet it shows them selling you a new tractor with no damage and with a certain number of hours. (I bet different than what yours shows)
See what they do for you and go from there. If it is illegal, we know they have done this to others.

Thanks for the information so far. Didnt know if to make big deal out of or not, but it ticks me off that they tried to deceive me.

I would not be too concerned about paint, it takes almost nothing to scratch that right off. It is kinda fishy though, I don't think its possible to roll back the meter. I'd ask for an honest answer as to where those hours came from and go from there.

Neil, my concern wouldn't be from the few hours, I would be concerned how many were put on while the hour meter was disconnected. I would be worried that they used this thing for a couple months as a demo with meter not engaged, then reconnect and sell as new. Maybe I'm looking at it too hard, but I don't understand why they would disconnect it at all unless trying to hide hours they are putting on it.

Likes been said, I don't think that they can roll back an hr meter. I think all they can do is replace it w/a new one without any hrs on it.

You could have gotten one thats been used as a demo. Perhaps on site or at a customers location. I doesn't take much to scrape the paint of of the bottom of the FEL.

I don't know what you gave but w/4 hrs and paint missing, I'd definitely want alittle discounting or some "boot" thrown in, like a free 50 hr service or pickup & delivery.

Hopefully they'll come clean but if you suspect it was used more, you may want to have it replaced w/a brand new one.

If you did some FEL work with the tractor you could easily wear off a good amount of the paint on bucket in 4 hours. But the whole excuse about setting the hour meter back is just plain bogus - tell them you paid for a new one so you want a new one. If that does not work tell them you will contact Kubota to find out the history of the tractor. If they had told you up front that the tractor had been used for 4 hours as a demo unit and therefore they were giving you a small discount that would have been one thing - but to deliver the tractor with obvious wear, a broken hour meter, and a bogus excuse - just opens up the door to wonder what else they aren't telling you.

The 4 hours wouldn't bother me, in fact it would indicated that the new bugs had been worked out and the tractor had been checked out. The fact that the hour meter no longer works would upset me, how many hours does it really have? Something fishy!!!!
