What is a good brand of brush hog to purchase? What should I look out for when looking at used attatchments? Have you ever heard of attatchment called a rock hound, local dealer says he can get me one for about 7K, I about fell to the floor. Any help would once again be appreciated.
Thanks
Jason

Jason… Congrats /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif now you have to up date your profile…
Used equipment like new needs to be looked at to see if it was designed & built with any quality.

Also on used; if it appears to have been abused rather than just used. Check for wear at places you should expect too find it. Be a little suspicious of that just ‘dipped in fresh paint’ look /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif… check if replacement parts are available.

Farm auctions are a good source for equipment. 3point attachments are getting to be in demand everywhere so even used is holding its value /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif.

Most dealers have a good supply of trade ins. Watch EBAY for things you want… It will show you the market place. Ken Sweet usually has things there, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have not ordered anything from him yet… but from what I have seen of him on this site, I am sure I will. Shipping may be a factor at your location, but from what I have checked they had some great shipping prices.

Watch your local paper ‘farm/Ranch’ listings… lots of places… Have fun /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif,… Your tractor purchase is just your start in accumulating toys. KennyV.

PS what’s a “Rock Hound” do? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Congratulations on your new L48. Be sure to post your comments on the L48 in the review section after you have had it for awhile.

Jsaon,
Congrats on the purchase, that machine should last you a long time and will do things you never would believe it could. Just a suggestion, I would look into a Harley power rake as an option to a Rockhound. The Harley rake will do ten times more than a Rockhound and costs about the same, just a suggestion. Good luck to you and your new machine....Happy diggin'!

CONGRATS ON THE NEW TRACTOR, THAT IS ONE HECK OF A TRACTOR FOR YOUR FIRST, i have heard of a rock hound and seen one work, but if u don't have a need for it all the time u might be better off hiring that job out,

Congratulations Dnjsdad! You chose the same machine I'm getting, and I hope it will give you the satisfaction, pleasure, and quality of performance that I'm hoping mine will. Keep us posted as to it's progress and performance. I, for one, am keenly interested in all matters related to it, and all personal experiences on it /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Tony

"What is a good brand of brush hog to purchase?"

I've a Land Pride 60" cutter. I've used the one behind 19 HP and 27 HP Deere tractors. Well built, tough units..

I'm sure your L48 could handle a 72" Land Pride with little problem.

As far as buying used equipment and implements....I'd want to try any thing that is PTO driven. A cutter is going to shake, rattle and roll a bit when first engaging the PTO, but should run smoothly after a few seconds (long enough for the blades to extend and overcome any inertia). Don't expect a used cutter to win any beauty contests...these cn get a bit beat up pretty quickly...more so then the tractor would.

Good luck with your new Kubota!

Jason,

I would look at Rhino, Woods, Land Pride and Bush Hog in that order for a rotary cutter in the 72 to 84 inch width. You might want to visit their websites to get familiar with them. New is going to cost $2000-4000 depending on cutting width, whether it is heavy or medium duty, 3pt. mount or pull-type. Your Kubota dealer might have some rental returns available, too.

froggy.

For equipment I mentioned Ken Sweet at http://www.sweettractors.com but also you might check with Mark at CCM http://www.ccmachinery.com … both of these guys are on this site a lot and sell equipment/ attachments. I have seen them both go out of their way to help answer questions & supply help /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. KennyV.
