I know a lot of us use our tractors for business or making some dollars here and there...

But I guess there are a lot like me that just use the tractor for whatever they need it for on their own place, and maybe even for some things they don't really need to use it for.

Last evening we were invited to a friends' home for dinner. During the conversation my wife mentions my tractors...during the course of the following discussion the hostess [who knows I am in my mid 50s and retired after a plant shutdown] asks:

"Do you use them for business?"

"No ma'am, just for pleasure. Strictly for pleasure..."
was my reply.

Most surprisingly, I felt this strangely warm feeling as I was saying those words!

My second thought was: " I have to tell the guys and gals at TBN about this..."

It felt like I had just downed a shot of strong liquor, but I don't drink strong liquor...

Must be the Christmas season... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Henro a good way to get any mans adrenaline flowing is to ask him about his tractor or tractors in your case. We all have them or want them or we wouldn’t be here at the TBN site. I am sure that most of the members here also have good personal feelings when sharing information about their tractors with friends. The fact that they are used exclusively for personal use and not for business purposes more than likely magnifies those feelings.

I know when I'm in the company of others I have to limit my conversation regarding tractors intentionally. I love to talk about them but would certainly bore the devil out of those that see absolutely no beauty in them.

Merry Christmas! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I get pleasure out of mine, but I will get MORE pleasure if / when I can earn enough in a side biz to make the payments! To me, doing outside work to cover the payments is like a double win: I get to work (play) with my tractor and someone else gets to make my payments.

My goal is wear out my tractor in 5 years and replace it. I doubt seriously that I can do that, but it's a stretch goal....

Enjoy,
Ron

Sometimes it is great not having to “justify” something you enjoy.

BILL: know what u mean. i use my tractor to do different things, but even when i climb on when it is 10 deg. and snowing , i STILL think of it as pleasure. just think of the options without it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree 100% /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you enjoy something, and you have the means to do it, you should do it. There are plenty of people with hobbies. Our's is just a different hobby, but it is for the same reason as any other... personal enjoyment... although my back will tell you it is not a hobby, it is a necessity. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My tractor is mostly pleasure, to get done what I need done. But in the last week we have finally gotten some snow, so I just felt like being Mr. nice guy and do the neighbors too. To this date I have helped my neighbors some but never have asked for any money except for the one right next to me that had to have a bunch of brush hogging done. It was about 5 hours of work and he asked me how much I needed to pay him. I told him $50.00 for the whole job. The other neighbors will usually bring home some steaks for me or something like that. One neighbor was gone for a whole month to India. I did his lawn mowing. He brought me home two small three legged stands for next to your chair. They were hand made each and have Ivory insignias in them.

I definitely consider doing the sort of job with my BX-23 that I previously had to do with a shovel and wheelbarrow a real "pleasure." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Come to think of it, that's exactly how I've started thinking of my BX-23: a 22 hp diesel-powered shovel and wheelbarrow! When the weather starts to warm up and I start mowing, blading, tilling, post-hole digging, and spraying, maybe I will broaden my view. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Speaking of talking about tractors (huh?), I can hardly wait for our upcoming trip to Michigan so I can talk tractors with my two brothers-in-law (both of them have JD CUTs) and show them pix of the Kubota! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My neighbor came over yesterday, to show her thanks for all I have done for her since her husband passed away. I wasn't home, but the wife had a great time chatting with her. She brought me a fruit basket for "all my troubles". My wife said......"Don't you know he loves helping you? Or is it because he gets more "tractor time"? "
Anyway....my tractor is a necessity for me due to health reasons. I could not take care of the size garden I want and the yard that I have if I didn't have it. But I get some pleasure each time I get to use it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I had a motorcycle for years and decided that after 2 heart attacks(at that time), a motorcycle was no place to be if I was to have another. I sold it and bought my first tractor. I have since UPgraded......and man is it ever a pleasure.
Saturday morning at about 12:30 AM the dog was going nuts. Looked out to see a van in the ditch across the road. Also noticed he had 3-4 people helping to unstick his van. I could have gone out there with either the tractor or the 4WD truck. Kindness must have it's time frames I guess. It was gone when I got up that morning /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I bought my strictly for pleasure, but have since started a side business and it is used for clean up on job sites from time to time, also get to depreciate it out with Uncle Sam this way.
