Glad you weren't hurt too badly.
I reached the point a couple of years ago where laying down $100 for a pair of chainsaw pants bothered me less than the consequences of not having the pants. I have never cut myself with a saw and don't expect to, just seemed like it was time. Other things have happened that have made me realize that I'm not invincible or careful enough to be sure it can't happen to me.

Keep an close eye on cut will be dirty and prone to infection keep an eye on it for ANY sign of infection.

I had a similar cut from a rusty dirty drum and the DR"S decided it was too dirty to close so I had to flood it with peroxide for about 3 months till it closed.

I've been there, done that. But only had to buy another pair of chaps. Have tapped the chaps three times, and they all had to do with the chain getting 'caught' in a tanglement and moving the bar.
The worse one was in '83, the day before I was leaving on a 12 day elk hunt. The cut would have been just above the knee cap on the left leg and was running full out (handle caught a stub).

2nd That! :thumbsup: I have only had to rebuy my chaps once!! My pants were dirty but unripped!! :laughing: It was right where the femoral artery is and I was by myself! I believe in chaps!

Not to pile on, but chaps or proper chainsaw pants are money well spent.

Glad your ok. Could have been much worse.

I got some stiches in my knee , I now don't use the chainsaw without chaps.

Sorry for your injury You are lucky it was not under power. I do the same as you, as the chain is still spinning I let go with my right hand and start moving.

Worst is, I have a set of chaps and every year I say I should put those on. Every year I am to lazy and don't do it.

I am done with my cutting, splitting and stacking this year. Hopefully next year your message will still be ringing in my head and I will put them on.

We had a friend who went into the woods by himself with a chainsaw and almost didn't make it out. Luckily his neighbor saw him crawling along at the edge of the field and summoned help. Don't know all the details, but it was a serious leg injury/cut.

I've never worn chaps, hope i don't regret it some day. Legs do seem to be chainsaw magnets

12 stitches, that's not bad at all. I got 4 when a leg broke on the picnic table I was sitting at while hand sharpening the blade. Who wears chaps while sharpening a blade? Ripped right through blue jeans like butter. I swear it was like 100 degrees out that day and I almost did it with shorts on. I think of it as a life learning lesson, remember it, try and be more safe the next time you are in that situation and move on. Now I clamp the bar in a vise and then sharpen it.

I never thought I'd get tangled up with a chainsaw, at least not due to being too complacent or not paying attention. I am always very careful and respectful of the business end of power tools. Well, not today. I was mired in brush in the woods right behind my yard, dropping and bucking up a few standing dead, and suddenly found my saw sucked into my thigh. The fact that I don't exactly know how it got there just shows how little attention I was paying at the time. From what I can gather, I had just dropped a 6" tree out of the middle of a bunch of little stuff. I was reaching through the brush, and holding the saw sideways (bar side down) - I had already let go of the saw with my right (throttle) hand, and I think I was looking over my left shoulder to see if the tree fell cleanly to the ground as I pulled the saw out - when I twisted my shoulders to the left, the saw must've rotated to the left, and the bar tapped my leg before the chain had time to spin down. The chain hooked up on my pants leg and the saw got sucked in. Pant leg turned into confetti, and I got 12 stitches across the middle of my left thigh - could've easily been way worse. Luckily I only got bit by residual momentum - my 036 Pro would've eaten my leg for lunch had the chain actually been under power at the time. Oh well...boy, do I feel stupid.

12 stiches is a nasty gash. Especially when the cut was made with a chain saw. I don't quite understand others saying, "that's not bad".

Last fall cutting firewood I was heading out of the woods at last light. There was a yellow birch saying, 'take me'. It was too dark to see an old barbed wire embeded in the tree. My saw jammed up and when it did I lost balance and fell foward. The wire cut me up but the saw was stopped. I sat there in stupor for a moment and looked at the situation. Injury could have been much worse in the matter of 1 second.
Told wifey aboout it and for Christmas she bought a pair of chaps for me. Won't be doing any cutting in the future without them.
