Did they get the job finished ?

Funny you should ask..n We just drove over the property again today to see if it was dry enough for them to finish up and it is...so I called an left a message for the mulcher to see if they can finish tomorrow since we have rain, sleet and snow forecast for Tuesday..It just won't quit here..This is supposed to be the sunbelt and it has been in the 20's or lower for lows with rain, sleet and snow for it seems like forever..I hope I hear from them and they can finish up tomorrow..I am anxious to get it done and I will post before and after pics..

Did they get the job finished ?

Finally today ...it got dry and warm enough to finish..I will post before and after pictures asap...The first mulcher, father and son team, I hired got in about15 hours ( remember I was quoted $1,200.00 to do the job ) and then the rain, snow and cold started...so I got a call form a new mulcher a couple of days ago and he said the first mulcher I hired had gone out of business and given him my name and he would finish the job for the remaining $400.00 balance due..He spent about 5 hours today and finished it up and it looks great. I feel so bad for the first mulcher crew, the son and father, the son called me to be sure the new fella had called me and said he was sorry they could not finish but they were forced to go out of business due to a lack of business and the weather...So if you look at it I figure between the two crews they put in at least 20 hours and I paid $1,200.00 so that is $60.00 per hour...I just don't see how there is a profit in there when you consider fuel and maintenance..I think I got a good deal but I hate to get a good deal that way..

Don't feel bad , they quoted the job . It was never possible to do that amount of work for what they quoted . They need to realise this business is seasonal and very weather dependant . You must charge enough to not only make a profit on one job but to also make enough to carry yourself through the quiet times . It's no good making a bit of money one week and then being quiet for the rest of the month and going broke because you have no money to pay the loan payment and fuel bill coming your way in three weeks . It's all about knowing what your REAL costs are , not just thinking "gee I did good today , I made $500 and only burnt $100 worth of Diesel " This scenario in the real world , has cost him money because he hasn't taken into account all the other costs .

There isn't...that's why the going out of business part. He was probably taking money out of his pocket to work for you.

BUT just because they are bad business men doesn't mean they didn't do a great job. Looking forward to the pictures.

WE have really been getting nailed with storms and rain and the pastures have been too wet for me to take pictures since the mulcher finished...I will make an attempt to take some pictures tomorrow ..hope it's not too wet. Now I have to come up with a practice to keep the Privet hedge from comming back. Here in Georgia ..Privet is a noxious weed that is extremely invasive ..worse than Kudzu ..in short order it can take over everything and reaches heights of 16 feet..it spreads by roots and seed - Birds help to spread the seeds as well...It will be a lot to bush hog as often as it needs to be done so I will have to try and spray roundup but it is such a large area that can get very expensive...Thoughts ?

No thoughts, here is a site with some ideas.

Sounds like you might need to call in an airstrike :)

Ditto. Those who do not work for profit will be attended to.
