Just in time for Thanksgiving!!

I can imagine how that would spook you. Turkeys are not known for their stealth and silence. I get a small band coming into my yard quite frequently. All the flapping, squawking and horse play. For sure - you know they are here.

However - they hit the pine trees when they need to sleep. A ground sleeping turkey could easily become coyote food.
I used to do a lot of solo hiking always stepping as quietly as I could in order to observe whatever wildlife. One day when I got under a stand of small fur trees all of a sudden all heck broke loose.

A half a dozen or so flock of turkey's exploded out of the trees! About gave me a heart attack!

I've mentioned this here before.

Several years ago my neighbor called me. His first words were "I swear I haven't been drinking....."

He then goes on to explain that he has a wild turkey pecking at his front door. And for my wife and I to sneak across his yard and up to his front door.

Well we do just that and sure enough, there's a nice and plump wild turkey hanging out.

The darn thing spent about 20 minutes following us around the yard.

Well we all went on about our buisiness and after a couple hours the turkey wandered off.

It was the mail lady who solved the mystery of this turkey for us.

An elderly lady who loved feeding critters pretty much domesticated a flock of about 30 wild turkeys.

Well she ended up getting sick and ended up going into the hospital and the turkeys lost their meal ticket.

The lady lived about a 1/2 mile from us.

This was around the start of turkey season. There were plenty of stories going around town with hunters having odd encounters with the turkeys they bagged that year

My wife and I were hiking in Southern Indiana many years ago and she about stepped on a Turkey.... man did we jump when that thing took off!!! :ROFLMAO:

Another time we were hiking with one of our kids and their friend. Kids were maybe 7-8 years old. They scared up three hens and several dozen chicks. The hens just ran through the brush, but the poor little chicks tried to fly and ran into about every stick, branch, vine possible.... little feathers flying all over the place as they couldn't clear more than about 18" off the ground. Kinda felt bad for them.
