Hey all,

Just ordered a new X748SE with;
48" deck
Hydraulic angling blade (for snow work mainly)
3pt hitch
PTO
Additional front lighting for snow work
I-match
Ballast box

Also a PR-4000GH pressure washer!

No date yet, dealer will let me know once they receive some feedback.
:D

Anybody know whether or not the X700 48" deck is the same as the X500s?

Why the small deck?

I kinda figured I'd see that question!

The tractor will see more leaf clean up duty than actual lawn cutting. The lawn cutting it will see has many tight areas. The large deck does not do well picking up leaves in a gravel driveway, it hits too many high-spots. I also like the fact that I can put the tractor with the 48" deck in my truck and saves so much storage space.

I use to have a L130 with 48" and felt it was perfect size-wise on my property. The problem I had was lack of power and traction.

I think your still going to have problems getting it in the back of your truck with the deck on. I think even its 48in. it still wider then your wheel wells. Could be wrong . Congrats on your new purchase

Congratulations on your new mower.
The deck has the markings of a 48C on it but is modified to fit the gear box and heavy duty spindles.
I moved up from the L130 to an x749 with 3PH and pto, still use the L130 to mow my own lawn though.

You are correct that the deck is wider than than the wheel wells. I have a F350 pick up that would accommdate a 48" deck on the X500 I just sold. It barely squeezed in....deck would rub both fender wells simultaneoulsy but it didn't rub off the spray on liner or crease the sheet metal. I wouldn't want to risk doing this several times every week though....I'd get a trailer if I had to do that.

Thanks Steve,
I thought the 48C was on the L (and LT/LA or D) series mowers.

After the L130 that I had, I went to an X500. I purchased a boot for the X500s 48" deck that was used to connect to the 8" hose on the Poly-Vac leaf system. If that deck has the same shape (at least the same where the clippings exit) as the 48" on the X7## then I'll be spared the expense of another $100.00+\- for a new boot!

If I had the room, I'd have kept my L130....I really liked that tractor. For leaf clean-up on an uneven gravel driveway, I prefered the L130s hand control for raising/lowering the deck over that of the X500. The ability to immediately feather the deck up above some elevated gravel or lower it briefly for a depression was very convenient. Not trying to start a different thread but on that note, I always found it odd that some here and elsewhere would bash the L (and...) series unjustly as if JD messed up by offering a product for those who don't want to spend the typical JD premium, or claiming it is not a JD at all....heck the paint and fenders were about the only JD components on the 2720 I use to have, but it was still a John-Deere!

Congrats Onemarine...

If you had a blade on the X500 for snow you will see a huge difference working in the snow with the 748.

I had a 355D (similar size to X500) and traded for the 748 to get the 4wd for snow. It makes a huge difference. I also like the hydraulic angle feature. The 355D was manual and a bit of a pain since I could not angle it while pushing.

I also wanted a 48" deck for the tight areas but the dealer talked me into the 54". It does better than I thought although I had to cut down a few small trees to get through.

Thanks ccsial,

I did not have a blade on the X500 as I was using the 2720 w/loader for snow duties last year. 5 previous years I used a Frontier walk behind snow thrower.

Around 6-years ago a I a 4wd atv w/blade....I totally agree with you, manual angling was a pain, definitely looking forward to the hydraulic angle blade.

My dealer also eagerly tried to persuade me to the 54" deck. He emphasized the fact that the 54" does not cost anymore than the smaller 48" deck and I can't argue the fact and would have taken his advice if not for my previously stated reasons.
