I think its a good idea with Powershift to ease every shift with the clutch, except crawling slow and no load. These were designed for rice paddies where you could expect some wheel slip to soften a harsh shift.

And I take seriously the warning in the Manual to never shift directly forward to reverse (or the opposite) without a full stop, or at least with the clutch pushed in. There's nothing in the transmission to soften that harsh shock.

Yes sir. I talked to the guy last night, he said they had that plate off. And the gears wasn't broken, only they had some shape edges to the teeth. Now that right there seems to me, to be some slack inside, allowing it to move. Would the specs. or diagram be the same as a ym1700 rear axle you think? I've seen the video on utube, like you said it's different but the same basics. Thanx again

I have no ideal if the rear axle of the 1720 and the 1700 would be similar or not. It may be a good time to call Hoye or one of the others that deal with Yanmars. For the most part, folks associating with Yanmars seem to be very helpful folks (my shout out to the members here!)

yeah, i can wrench on it myself, thats another reason i went ahead and bought it. Cheaper for me to do it, plus i can add to my list of winter projects. Just looking to see if anyone has been into the area around/ behind the pto shaft. I believe the guy said something about R&P gear wasn't broke off any, just normal wear. No sir, you can kinda feel a lil' jerk when it happens(click), i believe it's axle. But will dbl. check to see if behind valve is clean, it needs serviced bad. Like i said, winter project and going to use it for many lifting and moving small amounts of pea gravel / dirt around the place. Four wheel drive and all. Thanx

It needs a PTO shield and an over-run clutch as well.

Is the click and jerk when putting it in gear or shifting? Or does it only happen when activating the PTO? My bad if I didn't fully understand this in these postings.

It clicks and a light jerk, when in gear and give it a little fuel. I think he had said that the teeth on the pinion gear(?) has sharp teeth edges, but not broken. Maybe, that's the snap or click. The more fuel or faster you go, the louder or often the sound is. Yeah, i have an O.R. clutch and will make a shield fer it, when running properly. Between the winter wood supply and a pole barn, my wife and i are doing. I should be able to get this thing up on jack stands, by winter. Thanks to all, will post pix, when ready to tear into this thing, i just couldn't pass it up at $800.
