Brought this thread back from the dead to say that I am excited to have just purchased a L4150DT w/BF900 loader too.
I don't know much about tractors but wanted to thank all of you on this thread for taking the time to share your enthusiasm and recommendation for these machines. I had been watching craigslist for a long time and was the first person to call on a terrific deal last week for the tractor, loader, blade, posthole auger, and brush mower for less than 10k. Tractor is sun faded and the seat looks rough, but it started right up! Will pick it up later this week.
His dad bought it new in 1992 and they always had it serviced at the local Kubota dealer. Can't wait to get it home and clear the ice off my 1200 foot long driveway and move some dirt! Have 21 acres in the inland Northwest about half pasture and half woods with lots of plans! His wife even found all the books and manuals for the tractor so that is a plus!
My main concern is the tachometer and temperature reading is not working. The hour meter stopped working at 560 but the gentleman has only used it for some snowplowing and yard projects since then. He was guessing it has between 7-800 hours on the machine. From reading several hours here I am guessing I need to check the cables from the display to the engine due to rust. Tractor has been outside for the last few years and it looks like it but it appeared to be solid and tight from my initial inspection.
The gentleman said he would honor my first look as he was getting bombarded with emails after listing it! I am confident that I am a few thousand under book on this one and could not be happier with the purchase! I am happy with the weight and wide stance as most of my property is on a slope so getting something that was big and heavy was a priority.
Again, thanks to all of you who have shared your knowledge on these machines. I feel very confident that I made a great purchase on a tractor that will last longer than me! Looking forward to the learning curve and spreading around all of the manure/compost we have collected for the garden.
