Tractor
Kubota L2850 Hydrostatic/ Deere 5410 w/loader
Just brought home this tractor and after two days of using and examining tractor, I like it!

Not sure of hours on tractor (stopped at 1633) but it is tight and works great.

Replaced all filters and oil and got to know a little more about what I purchased.

Things in particular I like about the L4150DT
1. Simple and rugged design.
2. Hydraulic shuttle.
3. 750 PTO
4. The five cylinder engine is so smooth.

Just geeked about this tractor.

Sounds like a fine tractor. Kind of a gamble with unknown hours but it looks like you are going to keep up the, maintenance.

Congratulations. I have a L4400 and it has never failed to do what I have asked it to do.

Congrats on being the owner of a fine machine. I have same unit and it is a fine machine. I would do a full fluid change and order a workshop manual ASAP. It is handy and will help you get through just about anything that could go wrong. I am not a tractor mechanic but a full fluid change is recommended so YOU know what's been done. Nice to know there are still machines running. Well Done.......

The L4150 is one of those fine L3 models - its built like a tank. With reasonable care it will run forever. The most important maintenance is keeping the transmission oil clean and water-free. Then your pumps, valves and cylinders will hold up fine. That 5-banger is indeed a sweet engine. Give it an oil change now and then (two drain plugs) to keep the suspended coke from chewing on the rings. Get a new drive cable for the hour meter - part no 35300-34650 - around $30 The hydraulic shuttle on these rigs has an orifice valve buried under the instrument panel that varies the abruptness of the shift - adjustable for hot to cold climate. Great tractor - I've had three L3's - currently a L5450 (same machine - slightly higher fuel rate).

Thanks for feedback.

FYI -
When replacing the broken hour meter cable I noticed the cable broke down close to where it bends and goes into engine fitting. At first I thought the cable broke from wearing out due to slight bend in cable. However at closer examination it is clear inner cable just rusted away. I think condensation and rain runs down cable and is trapped at bottom of cable where it enters engine fitting. Just going to keep eye on this for now.

Changed engine oil to Rotella T6. I have used this in another tractor and like that it is synthetic and not to expensive.

Changed trans oil to Kubota UTD2.

Two engine oil drain plugs on these engines? I didn't notice two and haven't located a manual yet.

Brought this thread back from the dead to say that I am excited to have just purchased a L4150DT w/BF900 loader too. :D

I don't know much about tractors but wanted to thank all of you on this thread for taking the time to share your enthusiasm and recommendation for these machines. I had been watching craigslist for a long time and was the first person to call on a terrific deal last week for the tractor, loader, blade, posthole auger, and brush mower for less than 10k. Tractor is sun faded and the seat looks rough, but it started right up! Will pick it up later this week.

His dad bought it new in 1992 and they always had it serviced at the local Kubota dealer. Can't wait to get it home and clear the ice off my 1200 foot long driveway and move some dirt! Have 21 acres in the inland Northwest about half pasture and half woods with lots of plans! His wife even found all the books and manuals for the tractor so that is a plus!

My main concern is the tachometer and temperature reading is not working. The hour meter stopped working at 560 but the gentleman has only used it for some snowplowing and yard projects since then. He was guessing it has between 7-800 hours on the machine. From reading several hours here I am guessing I need to check the cables from the display to the engine due to rust. Tractor has been outside for the last few years and it looks like it but it appeared to be solid and tight from my initial inspection.

The gentleman said he would honor my first look as he was getting bombarded with emails after listing it! I am confident that I am a few thousand under book on this one and could not be happier with the purchase! I am happy with the weight and wide stance as most of my property is on a slope so getting something that was big and heavy was a priority.

Again, thanks to all of you who have shared your knowledge on these machines. I feel very confident that I made a great purchase on a tractor that will last longer than me! Looking forward to the learning curve and spreading around all of the manure/compost we have collected for the garden. :)

I've had a L3750 for 10 years (1984 model), same family as the L4150. Love the 5 cyl, super smooth and bullet proof. Big heavy tractor! Ours is rough and I just had to rebuild the front end, but it just keeps on goin.

PS, ours also has the BF900 FEL, but it's weak and slow. Changed fluid and filter, but no help. Anybody know what I can check? Thanks!
