So I pulled the Shifter, looked everything over and it seems to be in working order. Going to try and split it again and see what's going on.

um.. if the pto shaft will freespin when engagd to the transmission, you have SERIOUS problems! theck that shifter mechanism over one more time. if it has a splined sliding coupler check that..

The shifter does have a splined coupler and it seems to be working properly. As I move the lever it moves the coupler and engages the pto. I can spin the shaft from the rear of the tractor and I can see it spin where I took the lever cover off. What else do you think might be my issue? The guy I had helping me put the clutch in adjusted the release levers out on the clutch. I am wondering if they are out to far if that might be my problem. I saw no metal shavings or anything that looked as though something was broke or otherwise. My clutch is a 2 stage clutch. After adjustment, an inch or 2 of pedal and the tractor moves. Wouldn't the first stage be the pto. I am thinking something may be wrong with the clutch. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

even without the trans hooked to the engine. with the pto engaged, and if you spin the shaft, you will have parts in the tranny spinning....

this model I believe has a thrust washer back there.. is the pto really going to complete engagement
? if that thrust washer slips down you can't seat the shaft correctly.

When I spin the PTO I can hear movement all the way up to the case where the input shaft is. I can hear the input shaft spinning.

Yes 8sp dual clutch. The whole clutch is new. I'm going to split it again and see if there is a problem somewhere. Maybe I should have bought a clutch from ford. I got mine from yesterday tractor.

i'd look at the hub after pulling it together with the bolts...

My guess is it will be an expensive lesson learned. When you split a tractor, do you pull the steering column? someone told me it's easier to get back together that way.
