Where I live now, I did allot of work on my land and had a L4060 w/fel and bh that I just sold last week. I was sad to see it go, but since we are moving, I no longer needed it.

We are moving to a house that won't really need allot of work done, so I thought about buying a new BX 23s. I had a BX22 back in the day that I really liked. My only concern is the lift capacity of the FEL. It just need a little more lift capacity, so I am thinking about going up to a B2301. I will need the FEL and the BH, just don't know if I can justify the increase in price.

In the new house, I will be building a garage so I will need to dig the footer and there will be some drainage ditches I'll be digging along with some other stuff. I am looking at about a $3000 difference going from a BX23s to a B2301. Just don't know if I can justify the difference for what I want to do. I also want the quick attach bucket, but that adds more weight to the fel which reduces it's already weak fel.

Is it worth $3000 more grand going to a B2301?

If you prefer the BX23s, rent a mini-ex for your project.

Having owned both and knowing what they will and won't do and apparently having an idea of what you are going to be doing in your future..........Why would you be asking strangers that know much less than you for their input of what to do????? Either machine will do your digging. I've owned two BX25s, a B2301 and a B2620 BH and recent B2650 SSQA no BH. The FEL lifting was never that big of an issue for me but the B backhoe was stronger than the BX and had the extra weight in the bigger B. If your future appears to have lots of FEL work and the BX is to light weight then fork up the bucks and get what you need. Life is to short to deprive yourself if you can afford it.:cool2:

Does the $3000 difference between BX23s vs B2301 include the backhoe on both tractors?

What's the difference in FEL lift & backhoe reach/breakout between the two?

Just trying to get your decision making out of the "what do you recommend" and into the $/pound capacity arena.
What else will you use this tractor for? Mowing? Snow blowing?

I go thru this mental anguish every time I try to make a major $ purchase.
One trick I've found that helps & lets me sleep at night:
Make a list (I use a spreadsheet) itemizing all the differences and try to assign a rating of importance (to you) number 1 to 5 to each item.
If you can assign a cost difference for that item, it goes on there, too.
Other things, like how comfortable you feel sitting on it, ease to change implements, etc - they also go on the list.
After some time spent picking through specs & prices, when I'm about half way done, I'll often discover that there's an "obvious" winner.

It's cheap insurance against buyers remorse, too, since I did my homework.
Good luck & let us know what you decide.

PS - I see that the 2301 has a reversing seat for BH use ... nice.
PPS - go to a dealership and use both tractors to see if there are any "fit/feel" differences.

I will mainly use it for digging and bh work. Not sure what will coming my way in the future. I did use forks allot with my 4060 for various thing. I just remember when I had the BX22, the FEL strength was the downfall for me. The BH didn't do too bad. It would take longer to dig a ditch, but it did it. I think I need to go see them in person just to see.

Also, the price difference is with both with a BH and FEL.
