Blee:
I too looked long and hard at the Legacy XL series prior to purchasing my GC2300. I think the chassis construction and the price are the two things that stopped me from purchasing the XL. BTW, you can get the XL with a 27 hp diesel, but with an increase in price. I also wondered if the 27 HP was too much power for that size tractor given its weight and tire contact area.

The one thing about Simplicity tractors is that they are outstanding lawn mowers, they do an extremely good job of cutting without scalping and have very good mower design which I think is where John Deere's X series and other riding lawn mowers fall short.

I think the 27 HP diesel XL would serve you well, but for less money you can get a more solidly built machine that will sacrifice a little mowing ability.

"Branson makes a 28hp CUT, but it is only $700 less. The Scotsman in me thinks the better value is getting the 35hp."

Are you sure that's not more like a $7,000 price differential between the 3510 and the 2810. According to http://www.mcgeesfarmequipment.com/bran2810.htm you can get a 2810 for $10,500 and new loaders are about $2,500.

We are a Branson dealer and we generally sell the 3510 for $1000 more than the 2910 (which recently replaced the 2810). It is the better deal.

Blee,

I see that you say you are in central Virginia, which means you have numerous dealers in your area. If you are going to do a lot of mowing, please look at the Kubota 7800 and the NH TC 30 HST. Both tractors have numerous options and cost should be around $17,000 with a fel, rear blade, finish mower and your choice of tires. I highly recommend a hydrostatic transmission if you are going to mow.

Drive every brand before you decide.

If you can, check out the Kioti CK30 HST or Shuttle. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with all the standard, no add on features, the heft and lift capacities.
A great tractor, usually for a great price. John
