Tractor
IH 2400 case Ih Jx75
I am in the process of looking for a tractor in the70-80 hp range.I think I have it narrowed down to a case jx or kubota 9000.I have'nt heard alot about either tractor.Any pros or cons would be extremely helpful.I will be using this tractor for building my pond,(dirtwork) mowing pastures, clearing brush.
I also have a half mile lane to my house so snow removal is a must.
Thank you Rex

In my book, the CaseIH JX95...hands down.
Here's why I'd opt for the CaseIH:
- More weight than the Kubota, approx. 500 lbs. more.
- CaseIH has a larger engine, 17% larger.
- More gears (12 vs. 8)...better for dirt work and mowing.
- CaseIH can lift 3,000 lbs. more on the 3-point hitch. To put it in perspective, the CaseIH could pick up the Kubota M9000 with its 3-pt. hitch and still have 1,000 lbs. of capacity to spare!
- Full tilt-up hood. No front & side panels like the Kubota.
- Flat deck. I don't want a gearshift in the middle of the deck.
- Better cab...if you get a cab.

I used an Kubota M6800 for some dirt work a couple of years ago. I didn't like it. Not enough of gears. Despite 4WD, rear wheel weights, a loader for ballast, and using a lower gear than desired, it seemed gutless. When I'd hit a tougher spot of soil, it would just fade too quickly.

All this being said...demo both the Kubota and the CaseIH. While I spouted of some facts, the Kubota may work better for your application.

Thanks for your reply!I went to the IH dealer today, he also told me to look at the mccormick they also sell.He thought it was a better built tractor. He said it was the case line that was sold before NH came into the picture. The McCormick is more money too.The mccormick has a 340 westendorf loader that I know nothing about.I admit I do not know alot about farm equipment. This would be a major, major purchase for me so I'm just trying to get differant ideals.
Thanks again Rex

I don't know a lot about the McCormick tractors other than than it was indeed the pre-merger CaseIH tractor, built in Doncaster, England. In fact, the model number 'CX90' is still being used on the McCormicks.

FYI - The McCormicks use a Perkins engine instead of the Cummins. Neither good nor bad in my book. Newer Perkins engines are good engines (owned by Cat). The new engines do a better job of keeping oil in the crankcase. The older Perkins engines used to self-baste the sides of the block with oil & fuel!

Like your local dealer, one of the local CaseIH dealers in my area is a McCormick dealer...and one of the highest-volume McCormick dealers in the country, I might add.

While your keeping an open mind... Have you considered an older CaseIH Maxxum, like a 5220? A SOLID tractor in my opinion. The older Maxxums are a heavier tractor known for being good performers. The lower cost of a used machine may be a plus for you. There are probably plenty of older Maxxums in your area as chore tractors. A guy I work with just bought a 5420 with a loader. He had to wait a bit to find one...people seem to hold on to them. In fact, his 5420 was imported from Europe. He is really pleased with it.

Bounce the older Maxxum idea off your dealer and see what his response is.

I just got a catalog from Case IH on the JX95 and the 3pt hitch capacity is 5,975 lb and the Kubota M9000 is 4,630. Edge to the JX95 by 1,345 lbs.

The JX is made in Turkey according to my dealer

Does anybody know how long the jx series have been out?Is there any major concerns a person should be aware of.I seen one at a show last sunday,I thought it look pretty nice.Would the heavy duty bucket be worth the extra money for moving dirt.
Thanks again Rex

My JX95 literature says 7,718 lbs. Honestly, your number of 5,975 lbs. sounds closer to the truth...but who knows?

Case IH literature is pretty variable. The spec's for a British/Irish JX are higher than American spec's. They list 3,565 KG (7,843 lbs) lift for the JX95; which pretty much matches your spec's. I'd prefer the higher spec British/Irish version. I hope your's are right......

the spec's in my catalog are SAE (24" beyond hitch) and the Euro's don't stipulate where they measure from; may indicate the difference.....

Good point about the 24" behind the pins. I bet that's where the difference lies.
