Hey Gang.
I am putting my antique back to gether and as I came to the glow plugs I noticed one of them has a diffrent # stamped on the unit.
There are more threads, and the glow plug is longer. The distance from the seating of the plug to the end of the heating tip is the same. however the threads is longer and there are one number diffrence in the part number. It was in it befor and I assume running at one time. they all heat up when voltage is applied so I am wondering, and would like a second or more opinions as to usage of the one odd ball. as I said it was working befor. Basically all I am trying to do at this time is to establish the condition of the engine by making it run. It has sat for eight to ten years. The tale of course was it ran fine untill the starter went bad and they could not afford a new one.

If the odd one looks like it has the same reach into the cylinder, then a thread or two difference in engagement length shouldn't matter - try to put it back in the same hole it came out of so junk in the threads won't be a factor.

Glow plugs come in different sizes, wattages, lengths etc. dpending on the application. On some rigs they stay powered up for a while by an automatic relay, on others they simply switch on or off. On my L345, I think the telltale glowplug in the dash was different than the 4 in the engine. But if they all seem to heat up similarly when powered up (same shade of red) and if they go dark the same after turning them off, then they'll work fine even if they have different numbers)

If one of them glows noticeably brighter or dimmer than the others - replace it regardless of the number.

As always, prompt cheerful refund if info is bogus. Dick B

Thanks much, I will keep all posted as to the out come. Good sound advice. I normaly run a tap and dies on or in threads to clean up pryor to reassembly, if there are any build up of carbon and or dirt. I will try and keep all posted as to the progress of this unit. it is really music to my ears when one comes back to life after being declared dead and gone. jiggs /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

HI all

Less of the "Antique" word round here please. I like to think of my 1979 B7100 as a "modern" tractor !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
