Kaufman 22' tilt deck equipment trailer purchase

I went ahead and ordered one yesterday added upgraded 8k axles with 17.5 16 ply tires with a spare for $6400 less than I could purchase a comparable Big Tex locally for and while I have never laid eyes on a Kaufman I can't imagine a Big Tex being worth that much more, I will have to drive to South Carolina to pick it up at one of their facilities, but for that kind of savings a 6 hour road trip it is. Curious what everyone's experiences have been with Kaufman trailers?

I think so to, I have 17.5's on 10k axles on my gooseneck trailer and have never had 1 problem with them.

My dump trailer has 17.5s on 8k axels and I swapped 17.5s on my tilt deck trailer with 7k axels. If you were comparing to the heavy duty 16 ply 16” tires there’s probably not a big difference but the 17.5s are way better than the regular 16s.

Why are the larger rims better? Do not take this wrong. I am ignorant and want to learn.

It’s not so much the rims as the tires on them. The 17.5” tires are much heavier duty and longer lasting. Back to the rims the 17.5” ones are thicker and stronger than 16” ones typically are. A single 17.5” can run the same load that duel 16” do.

I have had 2 Kaufman trailers and loved them both. sold 1 when I had lost my job in 2008. but still have the other 1.

I really want to get a 25K 30’ bumper pull from them for my IH 7500 and maybe limited use on my Ram 5500.
Just can’t decide between a tilt or traditional.
Still looking for a clean used one, but it’s a rare find.

Then you look at Kaufmans reasonable prices and wonder why you even consider used.
The only down side is the long trip to go pick it up or the delivery fee. Even with that, it’s a great deal.

We also have another company nearby in Ohio & PA called Appalachian. Not quite as good as Kaufman (IMO) but still solid. They have a depot real close to me. They can build a trailer and deliver free to the depot in PA.
