KB1914 Brakes

I just purchased a slightly used KB1914 that has 110 hours on it. I was so excited by the overall physical condition of the unit which has a FEL and box blade that was reasonable priced that I never gave it a full mechanical checkout. Since this is my first tractor I was not real familar with the operation of the unit to be able to give it a good trial anyway. Now as I have been going over the unit carefully at home it appears that the brakes have been all used up. When I try to apply the brakes going forward in 1st gear all I hear is what sounds like a scraping sound and there is no stopping power at all. I am guessing that the previous owner may have rode the brakes with the brake locking mechanism on (like I have already done once) and used up the brakes.
Question: Can anyone confirm my thoughts that I need to have the brakes redone?
If so, what is involved in rebuilding the brakes? I am mechanically inclined but don't want to get over my head. Does the job require any special tools?

Sounds likely to me, I only just made my first brake adjustment at 130 hours; I should have adjusted them at fifty. I was also a bit prone to do the same and decided to let myself get used to my machine before wasting any more of the brake. Prices aren't too bad and it's not a bad job either. Get a shop manual before you start just to be on the safe side. It sounds as if you are correct about the parking brake assumption. At anywhere around 100 hrs it should only need adjusting nothing more.

Where does one order or purchase a shop manual? Is this something that one can get through a dealer? I spoke to a mechanic at my local Kioti dealer and he is thinking it just needs adjustment based on the hours.

I would also say it only needs adjusting but with the noises you describe it may need more. The manuals are available thru the local dealer.

I agree with Kiohio, with the noises you describe, it's probably rubbing metal to metal. Once you pull them, you'll know for sure whether to replace them or not.
