I went to the dealer yesterday to bring in a part so that they could thoroughly checkout my 2001 4100. I have only 98 hours on it (it has been sitting up for 8 months in storage - I moved to another state, got my new place now), and so just for grins I asked one of the sales people to give me a ball park figure on a trade in on a 2305. He indicated $8 - 9k. I said, no way, even though with my trade in to get the tractor in the first place, it was not that far off. I did think hard about it, and would like to gather some input from the forum.

My new place is 2.25 acres, with 1.25 acres of grass, and on the reamaining land, my house shares it with quite a few trees with a lot of leaves. So I got to "lazy/greedy thinkin'". might be a good idea to trade in the 4100 on a 2305 with the large mower deck or get a larger deck (rear mount) for mulching those leaves and cutting ther grass quicker than my 54" MMM can do it.

Or with my frugal mind this morning, I was thinkin' that my 4100 is paid off, and I could add a few additional attachments and cover all of my future needs (PHD LPPD-10?, Materials Collection system - expensive, loader even though I already have a dirt scoop, and that has worked sofar) . I dunno?

After all this pondering and questions I asked, does anyone know anyone who is looking to unload their Hydro Material Collection system or has gotten a cheap price on one of these? Sorry to be so long-winded, but I have been away from the forum for a while in a self-imposed abstinence while my CUT was locked up.

Okay, I am ready - hit me with you advice!

You cannot trade in the "Nuru Turboicharged 4100" It is a fixture here and we cannot have it going away. (there is a rumor that it is actually the stunt double used to make this picture:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=56586&d=1150556839

So the best we can allow you is to buy new toys for it.

I am sorry to be so hard nosed baout this. But it is simply the way things are.

:D :)

Well i am thinking of options to keep it. My current comparisons are as follows:

If I trade in, I am looking at a~ $5k loan for a 2305 with loader, bagging system, and 62" deck

If I trade in on a 2320 or a 2520, with same, I am looking at $6 - 7k Loan or more, and possible less equipment.

If I get a loader, a bagging system, for my 4100, then I am looking at ~$5k on Deere credit. i looked at the 2520, I did like the larger size, but I probably do not need it. However, if I found a dealer that was willing to give me emough on my 4100 with 98 hours, to only owe 6 - 7k, i might do it and "Ride Higher in the saddle"

So i am thinking about it.

I got all of the brochures from my dealer last time I was there. The new machines seem to lack in the hydraulics department. I would need to buy like a 30HP machine to get the same flow as my 4110. I have 89 hours on mine, which everyone tells me is nothing.

Hmmm, that is a good input. I did not realize the hydraulics may be a bit lacking That is a good point to consider. Sofar my 4100 has been very good for the small tasks that I have going. I am going to look at getting a Post Hole digger from TSC to support tree planting, and fence post installation. As I mentioned I got 98 hours on mine, and it just got off a 8 month storage period while I was inbetween houses! I am also looking at a used Hydraulic Dump system that was originally on a 455, and I contacted the dealer to find out if I can use it on my 4100 by simply changing the out the mounting hardware and the hood and cowl hardware and rubber/plastic. I know there is a Hood and cowl kit, but the dealer was not able to call deere and ask the question on Saturday. So it is a call on Monday to find out the particulars if this can be done. I did like the utility of the Hydraulic Dump system. I did not like the extra motor though.

Keep the 4100 - I am in the same boat and decided to keep my 4100 until the wheels rot off. I enjoy the fact that mine is now 5 years old, paid-off and I no longer feel compelled to obsessively clean it, but now just enjoy working on it. I did however just buy a small helper tractor (Craftsman YS4500 LE) to mow closer to the house, as the RMM is a pain around my new landscaping / trees. Best of luck !

garchib, well you are so right. I decided to get a loader (200cx for $2468) for my 4100, and hold off a month or two on the collection system to see if I can find another used JD Hydraulic dump MCS. I saw one on eBay but I did not know whether one that came off of a x495, was frame or 3PT hitch mount. I will keep the tractor and if i run into some extra cash, then I might trade it in on a 2520 or 2320 with new MMM and Blade. While we are all talking here. i have a dirt scoop, and was wonderig if I should get a rear ballast kit or just use the dirt scoop and put weight sin it. The rear ballast kit looks very good, but I probably can get by with my dirt scoop.

anyone care to comment?

Mowed my yard for the first time today, the 4100 is large enough and I cut the front yard rather quickly, so i think I am alright. I cannot wait until the loader shows up. I plan to install myself.

Loader showed up, promptly realized the installation instructions were missing along with the operators manual - Dealer ordered the manual, should be here soon. Looking to get fluid (anti-freeze), in the rear tires, found someone around the corner from my house (3 miles), who will do it for me. I hurt my should lifting weights and so I am debating taking the tires orr and running them over there or loadinf the tractor on the trailer and driving it over there. Concern comes with getting the heavy stuff off of the trailer without re-injuring my shoulder and arm! :C

I tell ya I drove a 2520 the other day - it is pretty slick. When I bought my 2210, I would have seriously consider a 2520 instead. Your new loader would fit I think...

Kinda, settled back in on my 4100, however, if that 4115 goes down in price, I might consider it! i cannot get by that 72 in deck for speeding up the grass cuttin'

To be honest with ya there is no improvement between these models thats worth the price difference for the tried and true 4100 and its replacement (the 2320). At best its a few hp at the PTO but no increase in hydrolics....the same thing with the 4115 replacement 2520, even less of a HP difference, and no increase in lift ability.

I wouldnt even consider the 2305 since you have a 4100 which is the superior machine.

The 410 loader was the bench mark for the 4010 thru 4115 series. I doubt there are many around but the 200cx is curved and has a little less lift ability than the 410. The curved arms come in handy when the tractor hood is curved like the 2320 & 2520 series. Not sure if you get that benefit on a 4100 with no curved hood.

If anything I would be shopping for a used or floor model of the 4115, it would be less on the wallet and get you where you wanted to be without giving up anything...

Well, yeah I did stay with my 4100. The arms of the 200cx, are higher than my hood, so it is not really noticeable that the hood is flat and not curved like the loader arms.

Yeah to get me to consider trading on the 4115, they would need to go down a bit and give me more for my unit. The loader works on both units so I would be okay there.
