Keeping a cab clean, how do you do it?

dntfxr,
If you have to get out of the cab while working in the muck you are screwed. My dad and I used a pallet to stand on and change boots with a short piece of log to sit on. Drive the tractor right up to the edge of the pallet to get on and off. That helped a lot, we later added many truck loads of clam shells with pipe around the lots. That was in Buras La. now in the mountains of New Mexico the snow is much cleaner and easier to deal with.

I don't have to deal with mud very much. In three seasons here the tractor gets used for mowing weekly and that means the leaf blower is used for the clippings that end up on the driveway. A few seconds with the blower and all the loose stuff is out of the cab and off the mower deck. Every now and then it is scrubbed and hosed inside and out. There's no carpet, so no worry there. The only thing I'm kind of **** about cleaning is the glass. It doesn't take a lot of dust with light at the wrong angle to affect visibility.

If you dress the floor with some sort of protectant (303, Armor All etc), the dirt will still get there but will clean off easier.

Also, using an automotive window cleaner that is anti-static will help keep dust from accumulating on the windows. I like Invisible Glass. I wax the exterior glass and that helps keep dust from sticking and makes cleaning easier as well.

I keep a whisk broom behind the seat to remove dirt accumulations. About once a year, I take a water hose to the inside and just hose everything down while trying to avoid wetting the seat too much. It is surprising how much dirty water comes out from under the floor mat. Just leave the doors open with tractor in the sun and it dries out pretty fast. That is all either tractor ever gets for cleaning-water hose, sometimes power washer if I have it hooked up for another chore.

I think if your really worried about getting mud in there in the first place then you might want to try some of those boot covers they sell. It's basically a disposable (sometimes not) cover that you slip over your boots so the dirt/grime doesn't get tracked around. Perhaps a combination of a boot brush on the outside and the boot covers on the inside would work well on the muddy days, and you wouldn't have as much to clean up.

And watch your step! We have a place we send vehicles occasionally to get "detailed". I drove one (a pickup with vinyl seats and rubber mats) when it came back. Apparently the word "detail" is code for "silicone the crap out of everything". My feet slipped on the mats and pedals. The steering wheel was slippery and it was a general pain to get in and out of. I told our guy who sends the trucks out for the service that if they do that again and I find out they can come and scrub that junk off.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I think I'm going to start with something like this I found for 18.95 that I can attach to the step and hose off at the end of the day. image.jpeg
And I may even get a small 12v vacuum I can stick behind the seat. I guess I could always put newspaper down on the bad days..
