Keeping FEL attached or not?

You can see much better and when mowing around fences you are not as likely to hit them. I have some hills and have to raise the bucket a bit to keep from hitting the steeper slopes. Much easier to drop the bucket than undo the hydraulics and all.

For the Deere FEL's, its about as quick to do either the bucket or the loader itself, so its a 'to each their own' type thing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I mentioned it just because there seemed some mystery about running without FEL and/or bucket.
I usually am exchanging between bucket and forks a lot, so often that I often use the tractor without either on the loader arms. Its better to see, and is less weight hanging way out front.

I never thought about just dropping the bucket - I'll have to try that. Either way I'm going to think differently about having the FEL components on consistently when I mow as I perceive more benefits not having that extra stuff in front when I'm trying to cut around corners, etc.

BTW, Gary_in_Indiana - not having the loader on makes it feel like a REALLY big version of my little garden tractor (with wider wheels).. Kinda cool, really! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for all the interesting feedback, everyone!

Absolutely! And there's less machine to get caught on the well, natural gas meter, elec. junction box, cable TV junction box, mail box, garden plants, etc., not to mention tree trunks. The better manueverability is a nice plus for a yard with a few obstacles.

I would agree on wanting to miss the trees... when I first started cutting with the 4600/FEL/RFM combination, I did manage to catch a few trees accidentally... thank goodness it wasn't bad though! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
