Ryan... that is too easy. Only problem is I don't have any hills! If I did - you just described how I would build a root cellar.

I buy the 100lb bags of sand used for sandblasting from a rental store. It stays dry, no orange dyed sand left on the driveway and garage. The bags stack real nice on a pallet to lift with forks and into truck.

then make a hill. seriously, make a hill. either gathering dirt from around the property, or paying for a couple loads of dirt to be brought in. and if you do not want to store sand in the area later on, use it as a loading dock. for me getting a couple 15 ton loads of dirt vs cost of lumber to build such a setup. the dirt would be small cost over all.

make yourself a horse stall. most horse stalls lower few feet are made out of lumber. just make sure you set your posts deep, and along the rear wall set a couple extra posts. so when ya do hit rear wall, you do not take anything out.

i been in enough live stalk stalls. and many of them needing to get in, to clean out the straw/bedding and the manure, errr i mean sand with a tractor.

go for a H setup. so you have 2 or 4 spots, one side sand, another compost, then 2 other sides perhaps parking for something *shrugs*
