Key Ignition Problem

WD-40 does not contain fish oil, contrary to a popular myth, nor does it contain any silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons or diesel. It is mainly 60% aliphatic hydrocarbon (Penetrating oil) and the remaining 40% (a water displacing solvent) remains a complete secret by its manufacturer.

WD 40 (I knew the factory rep) is a fish oil based product and as such is non corrosive.
WD stands for water displacement, trial 40.
In aviation I used it for all corrosion related troubles.
Every year I inject it into all my key slots and never have a problem.
On tractors and other key operated switches I also use it.
Key switches use a lube that over time (faster in open stations) simply dry up and WD dissolves and allows normal contact).

Hey, an aviation client insisted that we service his old C 310 AC so I delegated a technician to 'make and break' every contact and spray WD40 on a 'hope and prayer' approach.
Well that client flew IFR to Mexica and back on instruments without a problem.

And I am not attached in any way to WD40 company, Just a believer.

WD 40 is NOT fish oil. It contains petro distillates and aiphalic hydrocarbons. Not a big deal except some folks think this stuff is OK to drink; its NOT.

Aha! That must have been the guy that started that rumor.

I'VE HEARD FORM OTHER KIOTI OWNERS ABOUT KEY SWITCH PROBLEMS. I REPLACED THE SWITCH ON MINE AFTER HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS, AND ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE SWITCH ON THE PTO. IF KIOTI IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SWITCHES, ---BAD SWITCHES OR DIRT GETTING IN THEM, THEY SHOULD ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THESE MACHINES ARE MADE TO RUN IN DIRTY ENVIRONS.

The key switch issue has been going on since day one for my 2005 Dk45S. About every 2-3 years the key switch will act up.

I spray Fluid Film into my key switch annually and have had zero problems with her since I started to that 6 years ago.

I sprayed mine in 2012 with fluid film, and had zero problems since. So I guess about 7 years.

James and Looking4new, that's interesting about Fluid Film working in the switches. Out of curiosity, I looked at the FAQ on the Fluid Film website. It says that it is lanolin-based, contains no solvents, so will not dry out. But, because it remains wet, it will "attract an initial dusting" It is also electrically non-conductive, so if used on electrical connections, "make sure all electrical connections are made before applying Fluid Film".

FAQ | Fluid Film

Not sure it's the best product to spray into a Kioti ignition switch, given alternatives. :scratchchin:

It may not be, but it sure has worked. Of course the fact that I keep the switch and the tractor it is attached to inside a building all the time and not out in the weather may have something to do with it. Before I had the building and it was kept out in the rain is when the problem developed and the fluid film solved it. But now it is kept in the dry.

I had the switch problem today; the key switch seemed to have a "dead spot" between on and start. I could hear the stop solenoid cycle as I rotated the key (either direction) between ON and START. I tried Radio Shack electrical contact cleaner in the keyhole but that didn't seem to help. Then I switched to WD-40 which fixed the problem. The WD-40 seemed a lot wetter than the contact cleaner. Just another data point.
