Kids not allowed at Tractor Dealership?

Not all children are supervised by adults in a safe manner. It is very annoying at auctions where people try out machines, leave them running, and grade school age children jump on without a clue and start working levers. Some city dwellers there for entertainment don't know safe machine operation having never been on an escavator calmly let there children " have at it ".
Insurance is too expensive as well as the law suit to follow. No one should be operating anything without the sales person consent. That dealership deserves an A plus rating !

its one thing to let kids running around at a dealer with a few machines in the front of the store, but a dealer that has a few acres of machines that cannot be under a watchful eye all day long is a different story. some people just don't get it. Some kid could be climbing around on the machines and fall off, implement could be up, key left in ignition by accident. A whole laundry list of potential could be written out. I have a caterpillar dealer close by that wont even let an adult out in the field without supervision. Too much acreage of machines and liability

Again, there was no chance of us operating anything because keys were not available and the woman said I needed a sales person with me to look at the equipment out in the front parking lot and learned sales person was out delivering equipment when I said I would like to compare the B26 and L39...

This was 2:30 in the afternoon on a weekday... She said I should come back later.

It is simple enough to have all the equipment in a locked yard or post a notice regarding the presence of children...

When I was in scouts coming home from a camping trip the scout leader stopped at a boat dealer about 150 miles from home... we thought it was great and the Dealer sold a boat... just saying a lot sales are generated by traffic and companies spend a lot of money to build traffic...

A big minus rating in Customer Service from me.

I think auctions, especially where they have keys in the machines for testing are a dangerous place for kids. Likewise we would not let then in our back lot with forklifts going and all kinds of activity. But the lot out front with tractors on display is set up to be as safe as possible.

On several occasions we have had a 2nd grade class on a field trip to Dave's Tractor. We show them around, maybe let them see a tractor scooping up dirt or drilling a post hole, that sort of thing. We provide pizza and sometimes free t-shirts and the kids just love it. About half the kids like the tractors. The others just care about the pizza honestly. It lasts about an hour and is fun. There are usually one or two kids just mesmerized with the tractors. It is fun to watch. Future farmers or equipment operators for sure!

An auction where the tractors are running or the keys are in the ignition is very different from what was described here which is a dealership with PARKED tractors with NO keys inn the ignition. No one was going to be operating anything, they were just going to look at the tractors.
I agree that an auction with people are testing/working with tractors is no place for kids to be unless well behaved AND holding the hand of an adult.

I saw a great sign at one of our local businesses. "Unattended children will be given an expresso and a puppy." Most parents will understand the message along with a chuckle.

Ultrarunner, This makes 166 post. I think we would all like to know why the no kids policy. Could you go just by or call the dealership and ask?

The whole problem with todays kids is they are not held responsible for their actions. When I was a kid and got in trouble at school I was also in trouble when I got home, if I got in trouble on the school bus I got a whoopin also. Now a days it is the teachers fault the kid got in trouble and then the parents want to whoop the bus driver because there little angel couldnt of done that. They are picking on them. I raised my kids and was not afraid to spank when it was needed, all 3 kids have turned out rather well and we got comments all the time how respectful they are.

Can't remember where I saw it but the quote applies

"I'd rather go to jail for whipping my kid than them go because I didn't."

I have not seen kids acting up in a dealership but I have in restaurants and other stores. Then watch the parents negotiate and plead. It's embarrassing to be around for all involved. There were no negotiations with my parents. And there won't be with my kid, soon to be kids. BTW my wife feels exactly the same.

You must not know dealerships that well that have 40+ machines in stock that are constantly being moved. They are all keyed alike and sometimes keys ARE left in ignition. Kids do climb on things that they aren't supposed to and DO have accidents. Machines can be pretty tall and cause injury from a fall. anything can happen on big farm equipment. Evryone in the thread seems to claim they have complete control of their kids well, a bit of news for some of you, SOME people let their kids do whatever the **** they want and they don't have any respect. Also, some of these parents want to sue for personal gain. so when something does happen, the dealer will be responsible for it. Like I said, this isn't your average dealer with 3 or 4 riding mowers in stock. Its a large dealer that has to much acreage to keep tabs on who comes and goes.

Alos, yeah we all grew up many years ago running big tractors when we were 2 years old. News flash!!!!- different time era folks. Its not 1960 anymore, people love to sue people and there are plenty of lawyers that will take the case. Different day and age people. As a business owner you have to cover your butt. Or did you guys forget that coffee cups have to be labeled as "hot" now?
