When looking closer to the birds themself, i agree with you that they are not the same bird.
However the Kievit is a bird that has the same eggs (the only dutch animal with speckled eggs, except for easter bunny) and it also uses the broken wing trick. The adult birds do not look alike in any way....
I don't know what's worse... when they have their eggs and are constantly screaming at you or when they have their little ones and you have to look where you put every foot as you walk I get them in my garden and around my shop every year. The little ones are really cute and sit perfectly still if you are close... hence needing to watch where you put your feet. When they start running around they look like little golf balls with legs
Well, they have hatched and ran off to the lower area. I have only seen 3 of the 4...pretty good so far. Sorry no pics of them yet...they are faster than me! Here are a few pics of the drive moved except for their little "piece of acreage." The last pic is a "bird's eye view" of the dozer...tough momma bird to stay put with that coming near you I'd say!
