Killed a chick today

I tend to agree with the sentament here: I dis like killing or wounding critters needlessly such as the night a got 4 coon kits about 3 month olds Id say, (though I did have some as pets as a kid which made it worse) they all split in the middle of the road goind two each way so I went to the middle then they all 4 spun around heading back to the center just in time to get hit by me... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif none were there the next am so maybe I didn't kill them as I was nearly stopped by the time but they were rolled over pretty well. I don't have a qualm about eliminating a woodchuck/ground hog in the field with the 22 because I KNOW it will be over quickly for it (expert shot and I only take shots I KNOW i'll make. passed up 2 today that were probably kills but not 100% ones) I also don't hunnt for fun anymore but once did all the time. I haven't even fished for food in 5 years ;( something I used to love...

as for the chicken egg prob, I seem to remember you can hold the egg up toi the sun and look through it to see the outline of the chick and watch to see if it moves they do move if they are alive.

I had a possum do that on me - I swerved to miss just as it decided to turn around. I nailed it. Ka-THUMP.

I hate that.

But, I don't carry guilt about it. I'm sorry when it happens, but I don't kill for fun. Life is hard, accidents happen. I try to be careful, and YES, I'll stop to move a critter out of harms way, but I'm not going to feel bad for days if an accident happens.

That's just life.
