Killer deal on eBay

Maybe because there are over 6 days left and the bidding has just gotten started. Wait until the end of the auction and see if the price is still low.

You are right Gatorboy, The price has gone to $6,100 with 20 hours to go. Why does a history of the bids show the last bidder with the same bid ($6,100) listed 7 times?

An anxious bidder in first place. He keeps raising his secret maximum bid but the amount that is visible, remains one increment above the second place bidder.

He apparently fears a last minute sniper exceeding his secret maximum bid, moments before the end and too late for him to respond. And his estimate of what that other bid might be, keeps going up.

California, I did see today that the bid was several hundred dollars more and now the bid is back to $6,100. Is someone trying to find out his max bid and then deleting their bid?

Possibly.

The participants in alt.marketing.online.ebay (Usenet Newsgroup) talk about this stuff endlessly but I think they agree on one thing:

Bid once very near the end of an auction. Bid the maximum you are willing to buy the item for.

Any other bidding pattern will just attract amateurs to bid against what they see, and this will raise what you have to pay for the item. If you lose the auction then it went for more than you thought it was worth.

That works in most cases. If it's something I'm serious about I'll watch it to the very end. That way I can up my price if I need. I hate not watching and then find out I missed it by a couple bucks.

But most things I only bid at the end. No need to run up the price. I think Ebay also keeps track of how many bids you cancel. They don't like that.

Ebay does not care how many you cancel. Just like when you got 3 of more negitive feedbacks you were to be kicked out too. I have stopped aucitons, canceled bids, etc. What are they going to do, nothing.

I do not watch aucitons etc. Waste of time I feel. Use auciton sniper and it bids when you tell it too and the ammount you want. I enter in my final bid and then tell it to bid 3 seconds before ending
