Killing Dandelions

I've always had good luck with the Weed-B-Gone liquid spray.

I almost killed one of my dogs by using that on the grass in the area where the dogs run. We took her to the vet and the vet told us that the liquid spray weed-n-feed products and weed killers are often the cause for some SERIOUS allergic reactions in pets and to a lesser extent children. We had 2 dogs at the time, the other was unaffected.

I've not the liquid products anywhere the dogs roam ever since. I have used granular weed & feed but usually put it down at lower than recommended rates where the pets & kids roam. I'm not afraid to use either product in the other areas. But now I only garden organically and only use organic controls in the dog area.

a 12 gauge with #6 shot works pretty good /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll second the vote for Weed-B-Gone. It is awesome. But it will kill the clover if that is an issue). You could always kill off all the weeds and then overseed with some clover seed.

I also have had good success with Weed-B-Gone. I have used both the kind you mix in a pump sprayer and the one you just connect to a garden hose. The garden hose one is great for broad coverage of a large area. I don't have much clover so I haven't really paid much attention to it. However, this extension web site says that Weed-B-Gone and 2,4-D are not very effective against clover.

I've used the spray in a pump srayer and srayed the bejeezus out of the dandelions, then while they are still wet from the sray I spot sprinkle the granules on them to make the granules stick and it works great that way. I also have a neighbor that grows dandelions (his yard looks like a cotton field) so I spread PREEN along the property line and usually cut two or three swipes on his side to blow the seed back into his own yard, that way the dandelion seed that do blow my way land in the preen covered grass and do not germinate

What's PREEN?

it is a pre-emergent that stops seeds from germinating works good too.

I did that Tuesday. Weed-B-Gone seems to work pretty well on clover for me, a little less effective, or slower, on the dollar weed but it does get the job done; just takes a couple of applications for the dollar weed.

Why so hard on Dandelions? They were imported for their nutrictional value.

Leaves in salad, blossoms for wine and stir fry the roots!

A good plant no one seems to want! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
