Killing Henbit

I am in Fla. have relativly small acereage of pasture & yard grass (6) with 3 horses, & have been spot spraying Henbit for years with 24D & sometimes Glyphosate.. I have never seen it flower & therefore make seeds, however it comes back with the cool weather like clockwork. I just today saw some starting up. Usuauly I don't see it untill Jan/feb. I need to keep it down as if the horses roll in it they get hives & itch. My vet said he saw a horse so covered in hives & itching that it pitched itself over backwards & cracked it's skull & died.:thumbdown: Figured maybe someone here has some ideas besides selling out & moving..

Grazon will knock it out. Follow the label.
It is fairly easy to control but you have to stay on it.

Thanks Dusty what else will grazon control? I will check into it. what time of year should it be applied etc??

Most common broad leafs
If you have woody brush as well you can add Remedy to knock it out too.

I guess Grazon is better than 24D abd relativly save on Bahaia & Bermuda grasses

Google 24D and Grazon relative to their lingering effects. Think it's Grazon that'll linger on such that if you collect hay from it or put cuttings from it into mulch, it'll kill any horticulture it comes in contact with. Only use it if you're not ever going to use the hay for much of anything later.

Thanks Ralph will do a search on them. It is pasture only, just enough for the horses grazing so that is what I am concerned with. Is it ok for non food animals to graze on. The 24D is, according to the label, not proven to harm grazing animals..

Henbit is a winter annual. It emerges in the fall/winter and blooms and seeds the following spring. Probably why you never see it go to seed plus seeds are very small.

thanks, I bookmarked the lable site lost of stuff to find there. I won't be able to use the Grazon right now, as it is also a pre-emergent and I have to plant winter rye 1st week of Dec and then wait 6 or 7 weeks for it to withstand the Grazon.

I usually have it pretty much out of sight by spot spraying it 2 Xs a month all winter. (what we call winter) Enough survives 24D to re seed apparently.
