Good points by farmer2009 and you might want to have someone from your extension office look at it and give you some advice. On different areas we may use Roundup, Crossbow, Cimarron etc. depending on the type of vegetation and wildlife. We have used crop oil in the past, but now use NIS Surfactant. We recently put down 800+ gallons of Cimarron and it took close to a month to really start showing much, but it is safer of wildlife than some applications.

My brother routinely mixes large batches for a local farmer and does most of our spraying, so I am just passing this on.

Thanks a lot Farmer2009

I usually use a roundup clone and a surfactant that works pretty good but not quickly. This time i added a product called helfire so I will see if that speeds it up. Like others have said it doesn't sound like you waited long enough. I understand it is easy to be impatient. Good luck and give it time. I continue to see results for a few weeks on tough weeds sometimes.

You don't see full results with gly for 10 days to 2 weeks, but at purposes the weeds start to die immediately. I touch up my food plots 2 weeks after spraying them and then plant rght afterwards.

If one is using Glyphosate, why would one want to add 2-4-D?......just wondering.

I mix it all the time when spraying around my driveway, lot, roads, barn, etc. We have lots of roundup resistant weeds here and roundup alone won't phase them. At the same time I want to be able to kill grasses and thus I need both.

While Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide it actually struggles with small seeded broadleafs. 2,4d on the other hand is a selective growth regulating herbicide. It works best on small seeded broadleafs. And being a growth regulator is what gives plants the crooked neck when sprayed. It causes some cells to stop growing and others to grow very rapidly. Some grow so fast they pop the cell walls.

So glyphosate works well on grasses and 2,4d works well on small seeded broadleafs. By mixing them you get very cost effective broad spectrum control.

Also think:
grasses need the G
Broadleafs need the D.

clover
alfalfa
soybeans
don't know what else yet.

Just a suggestion but due to the Crossbow I would shy away from the broadleaf plant types this fall. Maybe go with something like oats and winter rye just to be sure there are not going to be issues with residual. While the 2-4-d is pretty short Triclopyr has a longer half life. Depending on your soil type, OM content, and moisture, you risk some ill effects. It is not common to use Crossbow in planted crop areas.

I hope you did not mix 24d and ru together ?
Glyphosate and 2-4-D are fine. I won't ever mix 2-4-D and MSMA again though. It crystallized and kept stopping up my sprayer.

I don't know about the soil so I am going to take a sample down to the co op for testing and while I'm there I ask about fertilizer to mix in.
