king kutter 4' offset?

Hi 1st. I didn't measure depth but I would say evey bit 3 or more inches deep. The KK web site may address this for you. My skids were set in the middle position. If not raining tomorrow I can get you a measrurment. Also, as my pics show, from the center line of the PTO shaft, to the gearbox, when I measure outward from that centerline I get roughly a 6" difference. Yes you can adjust your 3PT hitch linkage to "swing" a bit more and then adjust your up and down arm to be level and that may do what you need to do. From what I have seen, if you are argueing over 3 or 4 inches and you are getting a 3 pt. ht. tiller you most likley have a walk behind tiller too. If you aren't happy with a few tire tracks, use the walk behind to remove them. That would be A whole bunch cheaper then tearing up a tractor with an oversized tiller.

Also, I don't remember your tractor's horsepower, mine is only 19 on the engine so a bit less at the PTO. Check the KK web site and see what the manufacturer recommends. At 5' wide and just 19 ponies I opted for a 4" gear drive tiller. A chain drive tiller you may get away with a bit more width, if that is what you want.

I musta lucked out here.
My 48'' KK tiller sticks out 1.5 inches past the left rear tire and 1.5 inches beyond the right back tire.

No offsetting ; both tire tracks covered /Ya can't beat it .
I can till both directions where with an off set you can only till in one dirction.

Matt why won't a 5' tiller work with your tractor. I'm not familiar with Bransons but a model 2910 I figure has 29 horsepower. So around 25 26 at the PTO? Check out this site for King Kutter King Kutter Incorporated they had horsepower recommendations listed when I got my tiller. Also, they have a compact model for the small/narrow tractors. It is not offset but when I looked I didn't like it because it was a chain drive and wasn't as heavy as the gear driven model. Also, I did need the offset. My PTO horsepower is most likely around 15 - 16 since my engine hp is just 19. I think your machine would handle a 5' tiller well. I work with several guys with JD 790's rated at 27 horsepower on the engine and they told me they have no problem with the 5" KK tiller.

Also, price wize, I think each foot of width went up around $100.00 to $125.00.

And as someone mentioned, it would be a job but, sometimes you can turn your wheels in or out just for what you are doing.

I hope this helps ya, EL.

el,

i believe the 5' model will not offset. since my tractor measures 5'-6" outside to outside of the tires, i would still have 3" on either side. the other problem with the 5' (and 6' for that matter) is the gear driven units are HEAVY! i think they are somewhere in the area of 700 lbs, and i don't have front weights or a front end loader to act as a counter weight.

my tractor has about 25 pto horsepower, so i think i am good to go in that department. fwiw, the 5' only costs $50 more than the 4' on TSC's website. i'll have to check on reconfiguring my wheels.

You have the TC-48-XB, not the TG-48 that offsets.

The 5' does not offset, and it is 90lbs more than the 4', which weighs 600lbs.

You could probably get a 5' to cover your tracks by adjusting your check chain turnbuckles so the tiller sits off to one side of the tractor. However, the PTO shaft would not be going straight back in that case. I'm not sure if that's a problem or not.

Hey Matt. I see you are getting a good bit of good advice and information. You are right the 5' tiller isn't offset. (See my pictures of the 4' tillers built in offset) That means the input shaft, PTO from the tractor, is in the center of the tiller. On my 4" model it is "offset 5 5/8" roughly which allows it to cover one of my tire trackes. My tractor has big turf tires too, R-4's or ag tires may be narrower. I would think you could go with a 5' tiller and by adjusting your check chains, turnbuckels etc. and then using the adjustible lift arm to level the tiller you could cover one of your tire tracks. The PTO shaft has a universial on each end so I don't see you breaking anything.

Ask the dealer, he may let you take it home and try it to see if it would do what you want it to. I do believe a 6 foot tiller would be a bunch for your machine. The gear drive tillers are inherintly heavier and do require more power then a chain drive unit of the same width. I know the one I have didn't jump and bounce when I was using it. It's weight kept it in place and that is a good thing.

Also, I never got to check the tilling depth today but I haven't forgot someone asked for that.

I have more to add, first a question, what is the lift cap. of your tractor? I had a JD 2210 for which the 3pt cap. was 680lbs, I bought the 5' tiller and said it weighed 700lbs. The tractor picked it up without a problem, however without the loader or front weight, with the tiller raised I could pick the front of the tractor up with 1 finger! I think this is how they rate the lift cap. On my 2520 without the loader I cant budge the front up by hand. Also the 2210 really struggled to pull the tiller.

Now I looked at these pictures of mine and noticed the tiller is offset a little. Looking at the picture, from the center of the top link to the left edge (tilling edge) it measures 27" and form the center of the top link to the right edge (tilling edge) its 32"

As far as depth I can till as deep as it will go if I want in previous gardens, without the skid shoes. I only use my shoes if I am tilling sod up. And if horsepower is a issue, you could remove some of the tines.
