King Kutter Lime Spreader

Well.....not quite. The picture is my EZ Flow drop spreader which I FINALLY got painted over the weekend. I used the same color as found on most of my implements (similar to KK, Woods, Cat). I promised to post a pic when I got the final paint on it....and I thought it looked like a KK spreader.

The body shop down the road wanted $425 plus clean-up AND sandblasting! :confused2: I bought a gallon of paint AND a el-cheapo spray gun for $50 at TSC. After about $5 in quarters at the local car wash and I was ready for paint. Seems like the paint adhered quite well.

I cut the hopper and agitators down from 10' to 6' wide and finished up the welding and wrenching some weeks ago. If your interested in a build...check it out via the TBN search and "EZ Flow rebuild". This spreader will fit on my trails and between trees to make applying lime a breeze next spring. I load it with my tractor/loader and pull it with our 400 Kawa...very nicely. :thumbsup:

Well now. . . if you had put a KingKutter label on it and not told the truth, you'd probably have lots of us callin' KK to order one for ourselves. Nice Job!:thumbsup:

Thanks for the reply Jinman. I have considered doing a KK label on the back with a little black paint...just for giggles. But I'm the only one who sees this stuff. :laughing:

I'm showing this hooked to my tractor just to provide some scale. Pulling a ten footer (almost 12' with the wheels) around requires some pretty good driving skills. Last year I hit a tree with my other spreader...and sheared a bolt in the hub. No other real damage, but its tuff negotiating all the hazards with the 10' wide model and keeping your speed up to agitate the load, etc. I may cut that one down too....who knows?

Heres' a pic of me pulling the big 'un and putting down some lime. At a minimum I need to paint this one....its really in better shape....but doesn't look like it from the pics. :laughing:

Just curious. What kind of stubble is that in your second photo? I can't tell from the photo.

That stubble is the remains of our brassica plot. I believe it was Purple Top Turnips and Rape primarily.....but their was also other brassicas in the mix.

When you see our trails....it's just amazing the difference where we quit applying lime. The clover is so much better in the limed portions. I'm hoping to see still better results with more applications.

You guys spreading Ag lime or pellitized? If not in bags, how do you transport the lime to your place and how do you load the spreader?

I bought 14 tons of Ag-lime from a local fertilizer company....and he hauled it to my land. Where my deer land is located....there aren't any co-op's to spread lime....as its mostly timber country. My closest source was about 40 miles away. They hauled it in an old dump truck. I loaded it into the spreader with the loader on my tractor....about 1000 lbs per spreader load. Ag-lime is 1/10 (?) the cost of bagged lime.

That is one good looking canary spreader. I just bought an 8 ft. one and will fix it up some. Thanks for the pictures and info you sent me.

Good find on the 8'er. Those are the most versatile size offered IMO. Hope you found a good one.....put up a pic when time permits. :thumbsup:

Thanks for the advice on the drop spreaders. Here are two that I reconditioned like new. One is an 8 foot EZ Flow and the other is a International Harvester McCormick that I cut down from 8 foot to a 6 foot.
