I am old school, learned how to properly engage PTO when I was about 8. I never liked the electric clutches they use on mowers, it just doesn't
seem right and has to be hard on everything and even more so on larger equipment.

They probably went to electric over hydraulic so the computer can control and 'sense' things. Seems that they started showing up when the ECU's started showing up. Everything is electric 'fly-by-wire' computer controlled anymore.

I can (sort of) understand if it started as a way to meet safety requirements on riding mowers so grandpa doesn't back over the kids with the mower blades on. That is, safety interlock are easier with electric. But why are they on utility tractors when so problematic for sheer bolts snow blowers, rotary mowers, choppers etc..?

That's what I thought, for safety interlocks, but the more I think about it, that doesn't make sense.
Even my utility tractor with a basic lever & cable operated PTO clutch "knows" when the lever is engaged.

Glad I bought it when I did. A year later they went Tier IV and electric PTO switch/clutch.

I have had other cutters in the past and many shear bolt adventures.
I am getting too old and too arthritic for this kind of fun.
I did not expect this.
I will be getting a clutch driveshaft presently.

Why did manufacturers go to electric over hydraulic? Is it they think Americans want easy and convenient pushbuttons?
