So... After reading around and doing alittle lurking, I sat the ole lady down and explained to her why we needed a tiller... Went to TSC and picked up a 60 inch King Kutter. Right now it's sleeping inside my ugly 1977 Ford Van, still haven't figured how I'll get it out with out killing my self, that and the weather took a dive (see low 30's, wtf)... So, I don't think I'll get to setting this mean looker up for a few days or so... I like how this unit is gear drive and I think it'll last a while, maybe I can even make a few bones doing some garden till jobs for people... So, any way, since my TC34DA is Cat. 1, can I just pick up 3/4 pins at TSC? Would you recommend them, or are they cheapo's...? I think this beauty weighs 690 or so, should keep the arse end of her on the ground when the loader is full :D

Any one with this tiller, is it safe to till up soil that has small rocks? My back yard next to my barn is wild and needs tamed, but there are a few stones in the soil and who know what else...

I'm sure this thing will come in handy for my little moto-cross track building days coming up in the summer. I'll grab some pics tomorrow, I'm sure you're all dying to see my ugly E150. :)

Thanks in advance all.

Congratulations for and good luck with your new tiller :D! For a Category 1 the Toplink Pin is 3/4" diameter and the Lower Lift Arm Pins are 7/8" diameter. I am assuming that you need a Toplink Pin; the Lower Lift Arm Pins should already be attached to the tiller. Pins are not expensive and are readily available (TSC's work just fine.). If your new tiller can not handle small rocks and/or a few stones you have problems. I do not think you will have any problems except possibly shortening your PTO drivelines. As to using your tiller for rear end weight to balance your FEL keep it low but you do not have to keep its arse on the ground. Jay

You won't have any problems with your new tiller, I have the same model.
with a smaller tractor 1528 massey, just a few things to remember, your tiller was shipped dry, you will need 2 qrts. of 90wt oil, and a tube of greese, b-4 you start anything with it. and don't do as I did and try to go deep with the first pass tilling, I love the crap out of my tiller, it does a good job. watch out for the pto shaft length, I was lucky I didn't have to shorten mine.

I just bought the same a week a go. Tried to pick it up off of my little 4X8 trailer and a home made 3 pt boom. Picked it up two inches and it promptly picked up the front of my Ford 1700 same amount with 3 suitcae weights. I ceased and deceased immediately. Started with plan B using a 1 ton chain hoist and a respectable tree branch, drove the trailer under the branch and tried to lift the tiller with a chain attached to the top link, tree branch started to flex and could not do it safely, was planning to drive the trailer away and lowere the tiller. After fiddling for about an hour and being alergic to " Kill myself " I called the neighbor and he picked it up for me off of the trailer with his JD 6300 in 30 seconds. If he had his loader up in the air I could have tied my 1 ton hoist to it and off load the tiller just fine:rolleyes:
I then uncrated it and started servicing it. you'll need to put oil in the gear box and drive gear assembly and also need to lube all the PTO U-joints and rotor bearing on the opposite side of the drive gear assembly. I then tried the PTO shaft and realized that I need to trim both PTO shafts at least 4". Need to take a port-a-band to make a clean cut. I have no actual personal experience with it but for the price/performance can't be beat considering feed back from friends and the guys here at TBN. Looking forward to put it in use.

Oh man guys! Thanks for all the feed back! Before I bought this baddy, I made sure to visit King Kutter's web site and print out the .PDF manual. I did notice that it was shipped dry (as what you all said) but they didn't say how much, thanks for pointing what I'll need. The store manager gave me a 32oz bottle of Lucas Heavy Duty Gear Oil, it meets / exceeds GL5, which is what i think the KK recommended. I don't know when I'll get to installing it on my TC34DA, the weather is sort of cold and I HATE working with my hands in this crap... even with gloves it sux! Where is Spring already? Do one of you guys know?

Thanks for the pin advice, I'll grab some next time I'm out at TSC, which seems to be every other day  I'll also load a tube of grease in my gun, I'm sure that'll make for a lovely mess... heck, maybe I'll even shoot up the FEL, I've been working that thing pretty hard lately.

I'm looking forward to tilling though; this thing should make short work out of what I need to do in my barn and surrounding property. I'll try and get some pics today for ya'll as I know how much we like pictures! :)

This is inside part of my barn, the manure, hay and dirt is packed about two feet deep. I'd like to reclaim that and put down some stone to store things, etc.

another shot... It's sort of hard to tell how much is there, but it's a lot and then there is the other side that I didn't take pictures of... In a crazy way I'm sort of looking forward to working on this little project... :)

Max, I think an engine hoist would get it out for you, stick the boom inside your crate and a short chain should get it or hook a chain to it and pull it out slow on a pile of tires or bales of hay and most of all have more than one person and be very careful

I agree, thanks Jim... My old man is in the process of building me a 2 ton cherry picker, but (LOL) he is heading down to where you live, in Florida, Daytona Beach to be exact. So, yes, I'll be VERY careful. Thank you for your ideas...

I was actually thinking about setting up my heavy duty ramp and slowly dragging it out... might see how that works. Either way, if something seem weird, I'll stop... there is no way I can handle this thing by my self... :(

Max, I'm sure that you know that a new hoist will sell for less than $200 anywhere and I have found that Samsclub has a nice one
and some autoparts stores will rent you one cheap
