Hi all,

My wife and I just bought a new house on 10 acres and will now need a tractor to care for it. The property is mostly fenced pasture that will need to be mown by either a MMM or brush hog, but the far end has about 1.5-2 acres of forested area. There is also a dirt road/driveway that will need to be cared for and snow removal in the winter months.

I was looking at the new Kioti CK2610SE, which looks like a pretty good deal considering the premium features without the added cost of a premium name. The one concern I have is from a TTWT video (below) where he questions the machine.

Tim brings up two concerns (at 04:13): resale value and horsepower. His rationale being that the 24.5 horsepower being too anemic or underpowered for a machine of it's size.

Which brings me to my question; what do you all think?

Is there enough "oomf" in the 2610SE to run A/C during 100 degree temps while pulling a 5ft brush hog behind it, or doing any of the other tasks it will be required to do? Or is it better to step up to the CK3510SE?

I had the 2610 while waiting for my 3510, put on 18hrs, had no issues doing anything I wanted with it, and I'm sure it would do everything that you would want it to, however with ten acres I'm sure you would be happier with the 3510, these things are little work horses and you will find all sorts of things to do with them - for ten acres I'd most defiantly get the 3510, the 3510 would give you a little more power when needed allowing you to remain in a higher range, completing some tasks a little quicker.. I've not done a task the the 2610 could not have done, but I know the 3510 did it a little faster with less effort - if you can afford it and it's for a long term, go with the HP...

I've lived on 40acres mowing 10+ acres with old 25+ and newer 40+ HP tractors... And I'm also currently shopping the Kioti CK series currently as well for a smaller place. I've driven and looked at the current Kioti's and looked at more Youtube videos than I care to admit as well. IMHO, get the CK3510 with a cab for mowing that much acreage. The CK2610 punches above it's weight for loader functions and dragging/pulling. It can also bush hog with a lighter weight 5' cutter. But the CK2610SE cab version is going to be under powered if you have a LOT of mowing in ROPS form as it sits... especially in a cab version if you have to really bush hog heavier stuff to tame with the A/C causing more parasitic loss to a few of those already little 26HPs along with the HST. On the other hand, if you are just mostly going to be running a finish mower on FLAT terrain and AFTER getting the place under control, you may be OK with only CK2610SE cab. The pricing I've gotten is only maybe $2500 more for the 35hp so go for it. Trading a tractor later you're not happy with is at least double that.

I have a CK4220 here in Australia - same chassis size and with cab, but different engine configuration. Anyway, I run a 5¼ foot mulching mower on 25 acres of some pretty tough grassland (mostly African lovegrass). I'm very pleased with the physical size of the tractor as it lets me get into some tight spots for landscaping work - but I don’t think I would want a lower powered machine for the mowing, as the revs can drop in tough patches. If you have easier going, maybe the 26HP will be enough.

Thanks foe the shout out.

Let me be clear that I don’t have experience with this unit, so my concerns are not from actual experience. Rather, experience with other machines of similar horsepower, even without a/c.

I hope to try one of these Kioti’s soon!

Since looking at tractors in this size myself. The CK2610SE is competing directly with the popular B2650 and now LX2610 cabbed tractors. I agree more HP is always a benefit for the same frame sized tractor. The Kioti does have higher numbers over the Kubotas, so it isn't a one off tractor.

Wow! Sounds like I've got my answer. Thank you all very much for the responses, they've all been very helpful. It looks like we'll be opting for the 3510 and save ourselves the grief of wishing we'd bought just a little more machine.

I really appreciate this TBN forum. It's also really helped my wife feel comfortable with such a large investment, and to know that I'm not just getting "tractor greedy"- so a big thanks to y'all for that.

Oh and @TTWT- thanks for chiming in and please keep the videos coming!

Best,
CB

I have been very happy with my CK3510SE on my 11 acres so far.

I got to test one of these Kioti units with the same drivetrain (engine, transmission) as the CK2610 this week. I do think folks would appreciate the extra power offered by the 3510. The 25hp is enough to get the job done, but a few extra ponies would help!

I’ll publish a video on this eventually...

I wouldn't turn a 5' BH with a tractor of <25 hp, esp with the AC running. An operator might be comfortable in a cab in 100^ weather but the engine will be working hard in the heat.

I never run any PTO attachments when temps get to the high 80s. BTDT, and oil consumption is noticeable. (flail, tiller, etc)

All that said, I've owned <25hp and ~35 hp CUTs that were/are otherwise identical. For anything but PTO work they perform all the same tasks with equal ease.

What Tim says above about extra ponies.

btw, I could live without the cab, and enjoy operating at the 43rd parallel in our climate. But I'm only 70 and things could change as I get older. :)
