Hi everyone,

I am actually beginning my search for a tractor. My primary use for the machine will be to run a residential snow route with a snow blower on the back. During the summer, it will just be used to load compost on trucks and other lighter duty things.

First, what are your thoughts on the brand? I am also going to look at NH and Kubotas, but have heard some positive things about the Kioti's as well.

Any idea on pricing for this machine? Any other feed back/advise would be much appreciated!

Here are some used ones I found. I would guess they have the year wrong ont the Ohio one, it must be newer than a 2000.

Instead of a Kioti engine the DK90 has a Perkins. Kioti is a very good brand and I have liked miine very well. I guess if you have a dealer where you can look a Kioti over and test drive would be where I would start. I doubt many dealers have a DK90 setting on the lot but you might get lucky. The only one I have seen was at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville Ky. A DK75 might work for you as well.

Here's a 90, but he's in the stratosphere on price Kioti DK90 tractor 4wd with KL901 loader diesel farm - eBay (item 350377930954 end time Feb-25-11 10:03:56 PST)

It should be there for a while since at that price. I have been entertaining a 90, and have looked at a couple. At that price, he's about $15,000 too high though! I had priced them with air ride seats and 3 rear remotes and an additional front remote on the FEL and was way lower brand new. Do you get another tractor to go along with it at that price that I'm missing?

I think that it comes with an experienced operator for a year!

LOL, good one! Fortunately, I'm in a position to sit tight for 5 years, 10 years etc. until Kioti/Daedong/Bobcat/whatever name they want to settle with here in the US (makes me no difference - I just look at the tractor and the overall manufacturer behind it and I'm comfortable with Daedong and sure they'll make the right decisions as painful as it may be along the way). Their 90 hp tractor is about right for what I want, but in all reality, with resale and other market factors, it would not be a prudent investment for me to pay more for a Kioti right now than a very similar equipped Kubota or John Deere. I'll be the first to admit that Kioti has come a long way, but I don't think they will get by trying to get 5k more than Kubota or JD on a head to head basis.

I need to have this figured out by the end of the summer, so I have plenty of time to research prices/dealers and the individual machines. I agree that it doesn't make sense to buy a machine for more now and then end up with less on the resale end. I may even consider renting one for the winter and if it works out then buy it. That would give me the opportunity to test the machine along with the dealer support.

for what you are going to do, the DK90 is overkill. What I found when I looked at the two larger Kioti's was that they really were not competitive in price/ features with either Case/ NH or Deere.

There are two Kioti Dealers in Maine, one's in Skowhegan, the other is over near NH. There is a very good Massey/ NH dealer in Sabbatus: Watermans Tractor. Bob Waterman is something like 3rd generation family in the business and a very nice person. They are selling mostly Massey right now but they would be good for sales and service on Case/ NH. Hammonds is the big Deere dealer.

If you want new, I don't think you can beat the Deere 5083e for value and performance. If you are ok with used, I would look at the NH TN75DA, which is what I ended up with, or the Case 1075c, it's red twin. It is an excellent tractor for what you want and you can easily get parts and service in Maine. Plus it is a rugged tractor with very few faults and generally works without fuss. I'm bringing mine to Maine with me in a couple of months when I move.

Make sure you get a block heater installed. You need it.

Thanks Charley. I know that it is a big tractor, but with a 8' + blower on the back, I want to make sure I have plenty of power for any heavy/wet snows that I will be working in. Plus, I want to have the higher travel speed that the larger tractors have.

Where in Maine are you moving? I will be checking out Waterman's. They are about 45 minutes away. I also have a JD dealer that is about 30 minutes away, Hall Implement co. in Windham.

Yeah, I figured the block heater would be necessary. If I have my choice, and the money works, I really like the NH T6000. Very nice tractors, very comfortable for those 20+hr storms and well established.

I will be pulling close to 100 drives, so I need powerful and reliable both the machine and the dealer.

You aren't likely to keep 100 customers happy with one tractor. Especially without a backup plan for breakdowns. Because you WILL have breakdowns. Your business plan needs more help than just choosing a tractor.

That I know, thanks! I can always plow when necessary, and then clean up with the tractor. Not hard to do if the route is extremely tight....which it is.
